Robinson to Buffalo | LAK recap |

The Columbus Blue Jackets sell off begins…
Eric Robinson traded to Buffalo at no salary retained — full $1.6M cap — for a conditional 2025 7th from Nashville. Conditions aren’t known at this time.
Eric Robinson was an undrafted signing by Columbus in the 2017 offseason. He had 82 points in 266 career games with Columbus. His last goal was against New Jersey on Nov. 24, 2023. In 10 playoff games, he has one goal. He is also Buddy Robinson’s brother.
If I am a Sabres’ fan, look for him to be veteran depth on the bottom six as a rental. The New Jersey native has some playoff experience the kids have not yet gained. Good depth piece that could be flipped if they continue to struggle, but could help in round one. I would be astonished if it was Elvis for Soup. But it could be a thought.
If I am Columbus fan, I wonder what is next for the future of the veteran depth on the roster. Rumors are Edmonton have been in town. Thoughts are maybe Spencer Martin, or Andrew Peeke. They need the support. I wonder if Phillip Broberg could be had since he is asking out.
The injuries worsen in Columbus. Three new players to the injured reserve list, two are from last game against Los Angeles. One is not as new.
Elvis Merzlikins, Adam Boqvist, and Cole Sillinger have all been placed on the IR, and Jet Graves, Emil Bemstrom, and Nick Blankenburg have been recalled.
Bunch of news this evening as the injury bug is hitting the team — Erik Gudbranson, Jack Roslovic, Damon Severson, and Daniil Tarasov also remain out.
Islanders are first to see the switch up.
Last night recap.
CBJ PG27 — Road Warriors
The Columbus Blue Jackets were crushed in a third period comeback by the Los Angeles Kings by the final score of 4-3 in overtime. LA moves to 10-0-0 on the road to start the season.
Columbus scored three goals in the first two periods.
Period I
Kirill Marchenko opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the season off the powerplay. The first goal was assisted by Adam Boqvist and Johnny Gaudreau.
Period II
Gaudreau extended the lead with his fourth goal of the season unassisted.
Mathieu Olivier had his first goal of the season with the assists to David Jiricek and Adam Fantilli.
Period III
Phillip Danault started the comeback 23 seconds in for his fifth of the season from Matt Roy and Trevor Moore.
Danault’s second of the game came minutes later from Kevin Fiala and Vladislav Gavrikov
Arthur Kayliev tied the game with his sixth goal of the season from Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Gavrikov.
OT
Drew Doughty got the overtime game winning goal for his sixth this year from Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe.
Goalies
Phoenix Copley took the start and stopped 26 of 29 shots for the Kings with a 0.897 save percentage.
Elvis Merzlikins had 35 saves on 39 shots for a 0.897 save percentage.
Players to Watch
In a rare west v east battle we did a ex-CBJ v Michigan watch.
Vladislav Gavrikov picked up two assists against his former team with three shots on goal. Gavy was a +2 and had a block shot in 19:55TOI. Good first game back for him against the CBJ.
PLD was held off the board in the NWA but had two shots on goal in 16:20TOI.
Adam Fantilli had an assist with a shot on goal in 10:11TOI. Fantilli also had a 33% in faceoff and a hit. He was a +1 on the night.
Kent Johnson was a +1 with 8:06TOI.
This is not enough ice time for the young forwards when they’re the productive and plus players. The kids need the veterans. Johnny was fantastic last night. Best game this season. Laine was ill and the depth of the club stepped up and salvaged a point. With the most games played and then continuing to look up the standings, there are signs of life. Sell the hope.
CBJ THREE STARS OF THE GAME
1. Johnny Gaudreau — goal (4), assist (11)
2. Mathieu Olivier — goal (1)
3. Kirill Marchenko — PPG (8)
Upcoming
The slumping New York Islanders in Queens.
