The morale around the team has been noticeably elevated with the commencement of training camp under new head coach Pascal Vincent.
The major leaders, and some of the youngsters have been coming forward:
Boone Jenner
“I'm pretty proud of the group for that, to be honest.”
Johnny Gaudreau
“I loved working with him last season”
Zach Werenski
“YEAH, I'M REALLY EXCITED. PAZZY'S A SUPER SMART HOCKEY COACH. HE'S BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME.”
Patrik Laine
“I’ve known him since I got to Winnipeg at 18 years old … I’m super excited. I told him that straight up. I haven’t been this excited in a long time. I’m super happy for him.”
Kent Johnson
"It's awesome. I'm so excited for him. He's obviously a great person and a really smart coach. I'm just really happy for him."
There is a lot of high praise for the rookie NHL head coach, and given his relationships with the players and adversity of the past two weeks, everyone here is ready to go!
Injury Report
The injury bug has already reared its ugly head in Columbus. Per the CBJ PR feed:
Per CBJ
G Daniil Tarasov (knee) – Day-to-Day
RW Kirill Marchenko (back strain) – Day-to-Day
D Jake Bean (abductor strain) – Week-to-Week
RW Mathieu Olivier (leg) – Week-to-Week
As predicted in my preseason blog, things might be headed toward a rough start:
24. 35 Skaters Take the Ice This Season
Too many injuries last season has sparked me to do an over/under of how many skaters will take the ice, and this is where I’m landing. After 42 last season, I’m praying for a healthier season ahead.
What say you about the coach move and injuries? Are you glad or mad about Babs out?
