Game 7. The producer of extreme excitement and nervous stomach aches for players and fans alike.
I wasn’t expecting the voice of wisdom in this moment to come from Brad Marchand, but the veteran forward has learned a thing or two in his 16 years in the league:
Marchand: “The difference between winning and losing sometimes doesn’t even come down to how you play. It can be a bounce or a call. You obviously want to prepare to put your best game on the ice and take care of every detail because one detail is enough to win or lose a game.”
I actually think these two quotes are perfect. It’s about all you can say heading into Game 7.
What else more is there? Each team has played some good games, and laid eggs in others. So, it seems appropriate that it comes down to one game to decide who moves on.
But to Marchand’s point, there’s only so much in your control. So, do the best you can to control what you can and the rest is out of your hands.
Maurice is saying the same thing, just not in so many words.
You can prepare, prepare, and prepare. You can painstakingly go over every detail of every win and every loss in the series.
But in the end, you have to just play and let the chips fall where they will.
