Unless you have been under a rock, you know that the big boy training camp started last week and hockey is officially back!
The Cats will kickoff preseason tomorrow with a split squad double-header against the Nashville Predators.
Building off their identity/reputation of a heavy forecheck last season, newcomer Evan Rodrigues said:
“
We’re going to work, that’s kind of the team’s identity. On the forecheck and heavy on the backcheck. We’re going to try and skate teams into the ground. I thought we had a good first day. We did a lot of that today, and we’ll continue to do that.”
The Panthers no doubt have some talented guys, but their lineup is not loaded with superstars. As such, the idea of becoming superbly conditioned to be relentless on both the forecheck and backcheck is the direction they need to go in.
It’s a similar concept to Kurt Angle’s approach to conditioning:
The heavy forecheck was Florida’s bread and butter last year - as evident in Round 1 against the Big Bad Bruins. That is their blueprint going forward and the reason a guy like Rodrigues was added.
Adopt that ‘93 - ‘96 work ethic/mentality and come out swinging!
