Oilers vs Panthers Game 3: Head Up Eyes Forward

The Oilers got the full Panthers experience in Game 2. A flurry of penalties, cheap shots, and relentless pressure all game. Edmonton was able to weather the storm for a time but ultimately fell short in double overtime. With the series tied we now return to Florida with the Oilers having to make some adjustments.

New D pairings look to be

Nurse-Bouchard
Ekholm-Klingberg
Kulak-Walman

I think it's a good swap by Knoblauch. The Kulak and Nurse pair has just been far too chaotic and the duo doesn't seem to compliment each other well. Almost every button Knoblauch has pushed so far in these playoffs has turned out well so here's hoping this is another astute adjustment.

I saw some people try and blame Stuart Skinner for the loss in Game 2. Skinner kept the Oilers in the game throughout the second period when the Oilers were providing nothing. To me the game was lost for the Oilers when they had a flurry of powerplay opportunities, including a shortened 5 on 3 and were not able to capitalize on more than one. Edmonton needs to find different ways to get looks on the powerplay and stop just looking to Draisaitl.

RNH appears to be a game time decision after not skating in practice.

Edmonton has done an excellent job at holding Barkov and Reinhart off the scoresheet but Bennett and the third line of the Panthers continue to feast. Edmonton needs to find a way to keep that trio off the scoresheet as well.

No one should have expected this series to be easy. Being tied after 2 games at home is a fine outcome and right now the team should be focused on winning tonight but if they conclude these two games as a split than it becomes a best of three with two home games. Plenty of series left and the Oilers have done well to bounce back after rougher games.

Thanks for reading.
