Now that the Memorial Cup has finished, we are starting to hear actual names and schools connected to players planning to transfer from the CHL to the NCAA. College hockey rules have changed, and the new NIL money that is massive from the colleges like Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Michigan State, etc., are now able to use these funds to draw stars from the CHL to the NCAA. Would you wonder how much money a college has to spend, you just need to look as far as how profitable their football program is.
But it’s going to take a major player to really start the water running here, and according to sources, along with Elliot Friedman, that is VERY close to happening
Gavin McKenna might be the first TRUE generation player we’ve seen since Connor McDavid. The kid is already the best player in the CHL, despite the fact that he is still a year away from being drafted. He carried Medicine Hat to the Memorial Cup, only to lose in the final to London. His skills and vision is off the charts, and he’s one of those players who just has so much excitement surrounding him. Many are saying we havesee nothing like McKenna since Sidney Crosby was about to enter the league…..
And reports today, including from Elliot, are that McKenna is leaning strongly towards becoming a Penn State Nittany Lion for the 25-26 season. This will not only boost an already great college franchise but put Gavin in the media realm of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. That kind of exposure will also benefit him greatly moving forward.
There have been some very good college players over the years. But I don’t know if anyone has come to the level or excitement Gavin McKenna has surrounding him at all times.
I will stay on top of this and also update you on other players making the jump. Because there will be plenty. This is just the beginning.
