I’m going to post one more short article about each of them for you guys to help me decide, and then we’ll have a final blog where you at home we’ll get to make the majority of the decision here…. We’re going to keep doing this all summer with different teams as we restock our staff with some new, fresh voices. This is something that you guys have asked for for a long time, so I’m excited to be able to do that again. Let me know what you think of Jay in the comments. Next Up Montreal and Buffalo. Don’t send your articles yet for these teams, I will let you know when we’re gonna be taking audition pieces.

Beyond Moral Victories: Time for True Change in Toronto

The Toronto Maple Leafs face a familiar trap, and the organization must do everything possible to avoid repeating past mistakes. Following the Florida Panthers' taking a 3-0 series lead against the Carolina Hurricanes, the idea of keeping the 'Core Four' together for an eighth consecutive year has resurfaced. Despite the team's repeated playoff failures, this notion of imminent success has become a prevalent coping mechanism among fans and media.
At his year-end press conference, MLSE President and CEO Keith Pelley stated that simply making the playoffs and winning rounds is not the organization's ultimate goal. The true aspiration is to win the Stanley Cup and end the 57+ year drought. That ideology should ensure that the Hurricanes' shortcomings should not be mistaken for Maple Leafs' success. The team and fans must understand that no organization raises a banner for 'Taking the Panthers to 7 Games’ as this is not a victory worthy of celebration. The Maple Leafs must fundamentally change the course of the franchise and address the culture that has hindered the team.

Rather than seeking moral victories to excuse their failures, the team must prioritize establishing structure, fostering a strong work ethic, and cultivating a winning culture. Unlike the Edmonton Oilers, the Maple Leafs' core players have failed to elevate their performance under pressure. Instead, they falter when others excel. In their last eight playoff series losses, the Maple Leafs have been significantly outscored 31-11, and despite changes to the supporting cast, the core group's shortcomings persist. Therefore, the organization must resist the temptation to continue with the status quo, which would likely result in continued failures.
