So I took some artistic license with the lede! No, the item of note today is not a stool. Rather it is a seat. Far from any typical seat, however, this particular “resting instrument… hits a trifecta of collectible relevancy: plucked from a historical hockey haven, moved to a prop piece for a team-centric radio show, and ultimately as an autograph target for show guests. As per the usual with these posts, my interest continues to be less about the end-result memorabilia, and more with the story behind them, as they’re what tend to enhance our enjoyment of these pieces. For my new acquaintance Sean Blacklock, he’s got some great personal connections to this fantastic display case entry, which I’m sure will resonate with many Leafs fans out there as well…
I have a piece of leaf history I'm pretty proud of that has a neat story. It's a red seat from Maple Leaf Gardens (#9 to be specific). It was on display at a Shoeless Joe's (since closed) where they used to simulcast “Leafs Lunch… back in the day with Bill Watters. Guests would sit in that chair and sign it. The signatures are Bobby Baun, Doug Gilmour, Dan Daoust, Dave Ellett, Garry Valk and Pete Conacher. My wife purchased it from the franchise owner and gave it to me as the most incredible Christmas gift ever. I now sit in it for every televised game and cheer on the Blue and White. I have been a fan for over 40 years and am so excited to finally see some light at the end of the tunnel with a strong group of extremely talented young cornerstones. I actually attended the last game at the Gardens and sat in the reds so the chair has extra special meaning to me.
Beautiful display piece Sean, and a great way to take in the new look Leafs for years to come! Your wife hooked you up solid!
