We’re all a little Missouri, aren't we? It's one thing to be told something, but I’ll be damned if a little “Show Me!… doesn't carry more weight in the end! So it's one thing for me to extoll the virtues of the thrift shop when bargain collecting (check it out right hereif you didn't catch it) and a whole other to give some concrete evidence to back it up, no?
Well, enter this story of a Fredericton, New Brunswick man who turned a $2.99 thrift store bobblehead buy into an investment that could be worth anywhere from $4000 to $20,000! Some of the key features of this particular figure, according to the article from the CBC:
- The figures were made in Japan in 1964 for the Laura Secord company as part of a promotion involving the original six NHL teams
- The particular figure purchased by the man is very rare given the multitude of errors, including bearing a Bruins logo albeit with the Canadiens colour scheme for the uniform, and the jersey number resting on the incorrect shoulder.
- Of the 11 remaining known figures, none, but this one, bears a Bruins logo.
- No complete set exists
Do yourself a favour and give the full article a read here. Hopefully you’ll find the story of Mr. Normand McDonald and his buddy “Cash… as endearing as I did. Seems like he was truly attached to this little fella even when he had no idea he was worth anything more than the $2.99 he paid!
