Is Cody Hodgeson being at development camp a bad sign, or is it because he was acquired at the deadline and could the extra time with the Sabres? Or is it because he's proactive and wanted to be there? Just curious.

You do know he's 22 and it's his 2nd year in the NHL, right?

If the sabres don't make any more moves, I don't think this is a playoff team. What do you guys think?

i wouldn't read anythign into it... if anything it shows his dedication to learn the coaches system and get to know the players on this team. He is still young he has only played one full season in the NHL.

they are way too weak down the middle unless cody and ennis keep up the work they had last year and Grigo surprises the crap out of me.

i would bet that ennis plateaus and possibly trails off the production once the honeymoon of the season is over. If he keeps it up he will get more attention and the more he produces the more other teams will figure out what they need to do to stop him..

Yes I know that. I think I just based the question off of the players the Bruins usually have at development camp and wrongfully applied it to the Sabres. So I pretty much retract my question.

They are weak down the middle, but they don't need to go all in for a Stastny, Getzlaf, or Thornton. Last year Hodgson got 3G, 5A in 20 games for the Sabres. With training and getting more accustomed to the system with ~18 minutes of ice time a game, he should throw up at least 50+ points along side Pominville and Vanek. Plus if you go after a #1 C.. you virtually make Girgorenko's pick useless and hurt his development.

I would say give Grigorenko his 10 game stint on the 3rd line and 1st line to give him a taste of what it's like. He still needs to work on his endurance and conditioning, so I really don't see him maintaining that high-speed pace ~18 minutes a game in his very first year. Send him back to Quebec and let him fine tune his work and fit him in our roster next year.

Just sign Arnott and Ennis for ~3 mil, Kaleta for ~1.5, and make a trade for Bobby Ryan.

Buffalo usually has a blend of the young and a few from the AHL.. they usually don't have players that have played a full season in the NHL but with him being new i think it is good for him to work and communicate with the coaches

Arnott would be a good addition for the third line..

Ennis was at last year's development camp. The new rooks look up to kids like that because it's the prime example of "hey, in a few years, you can make it too."

isn't that all we need? a vet who won the cup and can help the young centers?

Our current roster has 0 cup winners.

How many did LA have? Dustin Penner won one with Anaheim. Am I missing someone?

Unless you make him a right winger and ease his transition into the NHL. That's not necessarily a bad option either.

I suppose that isn't the worst of options.. but with his movement, creativity, body frame, and especially his vision, he should stay at center.

Agreed... Grigs should stay at center because that is what we drafted him for..

he is 6'3 and 200 lbs...

Hodgson being at the camp is a great asset to have.. he is there to play with his teammates and learn the system even better..

I never really take the 20 games after a trade as a true judgment of a player because they don't know the system.. they are just playing on pure instinct. A 22 year old in his first year in the NHL doesn't have the best instinct in the world yet.

It would be a toss up between Hodgson and Ennis. If Ennis goes, Grigorenko and Hodgson center the PK lines. If Hodgson goes, Grigorenko and Ott/Leino. Regardless, we should yield a pretty good exchange for either of them

i give it at least 2 years. first year for getting his feet wet. second year to understand what's expected of him. 3rd year to prove us everything he said he can be; our next Alexander Mogilny.
