If you don't deliver on a linemate for Pleks and clear the dead weight off this team then we are in big trouble again. This D is no where near what Price needs to excel in any way shape or form...

By the end of those six years, Price will have been in Montreal for 11, having likely added 350-odd games to the 271 he's already played for the Canadiens. And that's not counting the playoffs.

Good one EE!

The defense should be better this year. Markov should be in better shape, Emelin has a year under his belt and Bouillon will also help solidify things. He is a lot better than Campoli.

It is day 3 of unrestricted free agency. Everyone needs to chill, in the words of some really rich guy.

Has Bergevin made any mistakes yet?

No.

He has time to handle the "dead weight", there are more important things to deal with, like Subban's unsettled contract status.

He can do his best to find a winger for Plek, but unless it's of the Parise variety, it has to be a real short-term solution. So, that'll take time... Doesn't have to be a UFA. And if it comes through trade, trades are facilitated by what shakes out on the market over the next couple of days.

There's no urgency.

And if the Canadiens go into this season with the pieces they currently have, we'll see what comes of it, because the plan is to build a team that can potentially have some success now, but definitely have some success for years to come.

"Tired of mediocrity" is a phrase often read in these forums. Seems to me that the man in charge of the Canadiens is striving for more. Be patient.

It's ok. We need another strong draft.

Let the bad contracts run out.

By then, the young prospects will be ready to take over and the habs will be relevant again.

Top 5 pick next year, then they can start addressing those issues especially when a few of the kids might be ready to make the jump permanently.

exactly. Teams that win build from within and use the free agency market to get key pieces they think will get them to the next level, they don't build the team through it.

They also use free agency to patch things up until their team is ready to contend through that internal build.

Habs will have expiring contracts in two years and premiere talents coming up through the system.

And to reiterate, Bergevin's yet to make a mistake.

Parenteau for four years would've been that mistake. You don't take on maybes for lots of money when you have sure bets coming up through the pipeline.

Not to say Parenteau is overpaid. He went for market value, and the market for him was high because he scored 67 pts last year, and there weren't too many of him available out there. I don't think the Habs would've cared about paying him a high salary, but to take him on for four years when they'll have better wingers wouldn't have made sense.

While in principal I agree, I am still waiting to see if Therien is a mistake or not.
