Jeff Quirin: Where the Blues Stand After Day One of Free Agency | Carle or Trade? The Blues acted as expected amid the free agency frenzy on July 1st. Where are they at and where are they heading?

We need a legitimate partner for Petro (not Colaiacovo) if he is going to be able to play to his full capabilities.

In order of preference:

1. Sign Matt Carle for 5 years at 5 million per.

2. Trade D'Agostini and our 1st round pick for Jay Bouwmeester

3. Sign Colaiacovo. Again.

I would say trade for Cody Franson out of TOR, but Burke would probably ask for Oshie, Backes, Stewart, and our next 3 years of 1st round picks for him since he cant seem to evaluate his own players without bias.

I would think Burke would do Franson for Stewart straight up. I'm not sure Armstrong would though...

Oh, here we go with the stupid trade offers... Polak isn't going anywhere.

Look at where the Calgary Flames are! Your team is banging on the cap ceiling door and you can't even make the playoffs!

Whatever your smoking up there in Calgary I want some. No way do we trade Polak for one. 2 you could maybe get Stewart and a pick for jbo and backland. Jbo's contract is way overpriced

The Blues are in a position where we can afford to give up early draft picks. I wonder if our 2nd and OTT's 2nd from the bishop deal are enough to get Franson?

Say Franson signs for around 3 million per season at the most? If you consider an offer sheet, the compensation would only be 1 second round pick.

I don't think Burke would trade Franson for picks. He's looking for youngish players that have a chance to have an impact. Stewart fits the bill in terms of what he is looking for. Having said that, Burke may have to throw in a 2nd round pick along with Franson to nab Stewart. But what do we know and now that the Blues have signed Woywitka it may be a moot point.

Really? There's no prospect on the Isles that you would want?

How available is Andy McDonald? Is Lydman a player that could fill the need?

The Flyers will gladly resign Carle at 5 year 5 mil front loaded once Suter picks his poison (assuming it ain't Philly) If you guys want him, it'll probably cost ya 6 mil. Just FYI.
