He's a solid 3rd/4th line guy. Good pick up for the Caps.

dude was a dime a dozen player. AHL is loaded with them. But they didn't pay too much for him.. Good for JC

950K is too much to pay a guy who doesn't bring anything of significance. He's not a good Defensive player. He's not an overly gritty player. He doesn't score enough. He's a marginal player/ filler. That IMO isn't worth almost a mil.

I gotta say, besides not getting Schultz, I'm very happy with what the Leafs did yesterday.

- We turfed Armstrong, made room for some younger guys.

- McClement is an upgrade for our bottom 6 -- another defensive guy who's a good option on our #2 PK with a decent faceoff percentage (51%).

- we didn't sign a 1-dimensional fighter like Parros.

- we didn't sign any 4th liners to ridiculous term/salary like Prust.

- we have room in our roster now for Marlies guys to step up (especially with Frattin in a lengthy rehab and possibly not making camp) like Kadri, D'Amigo, Holzer, and Colborne.

I disagree.. He played his ass off every shift... tough to find players with his work effort and the same ability to score on a 3rd/4th line guy.. especially for his price tag..

He will be missed

He lost a bit of jam towards the end of the year; perhaps injuries, but he wasn't forechecking with the same intensity as he was earlier.

Crabb competed, but to very little effect, lets not get too carried away.

Agreed.... you can add to that list not making moronic overpayments to 1 year wonders who are 27-28 years old.

I don't think that Frattin is going to miss camp. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard he will be ready to go for camp. I think it's 4-6 week thing rather 3-4 month.

I liked him.. Also he showed some real chemistry with Colborne.. Woulda been nice to see them both on the 3rd line this year to make Joe's transition a little easier.

Knew it was coming though, I just liked his style of play.

You know of a ton of guys with his work effort that cost $600K?

We have guys like Lombardi, Steckel, Army, etc... that were playing 3rd line minutes... Always felt Crabb was the best option for those.

Whether he misses camp or not...doesn't matter....not a big loss or addition.

950K... and yeah.

I agree about him being a better option than those listed. He's not worth 950K.

Crabb was okay but it's not a big (or even average size) loss by any means. The McClement signing was okay, but equally was not a bit or even average size gain. Might help on the PK but people said that about a number of guys we've brought in in the last few years.

We obviously aren't going to be big in free agency, which Burke himself stated, I think it would have been nice to add more third and fourth line role players as there were lots of those available or even a shutdown dman to replace Schenn but oh well.

So far doesn't look like we've improved or gotten any worse. That's not really a good thing since we obviously need to improve if we're going to have a hope in hell of making the playoffs or we'll have to get worse if we're going to finish low enough in the standings to get a top end pick (which Burke won't do).

Now it's down to trades. Hopefully Burke can work some magic as he's done in the past, otherwise it's going to be another long, long season...

I'm all for being realistic, but come one. that's jut being negative for the sake of it... Yeah obviously a guy coming into his 2nd year off an injury doesn't matter if he makes it to camp or not.
