Do you guys have the cap space to sign Parise? Sorry I never read the blog. - KABLOOEY
Yes. Doesn't mean it will happen. New Jersey, Minnesota, Detroit, etc. all can make offers that would be enticing to him. They will talk to him for sure, but does not mean they will sign him or that he does want to be here. |

Yes, as long as he takes and AAV of $7.5-8M. The Pens have about $14.5M of cap space, and need to sign 5 players to get to the roster max of 23.
There is even talk of them going after Parise and Suter. For that to happen they would need to move Paul Martin's AAV of $5M and Suter would need to be in the $6.5M AAV range at most. |

Could we make both work if we just moved a 2 million dollar salary like, say, TK? |

I think he would jump at an opportunity to play there. My god can you imagine? |

Iggy would be a great back up plan....short term of course. What would it take to get him? Though, doesn't look like they're planning on a rebuild just yet. |

put crosby parise and dupuis out there to start...
then put out the line with the 40 goal scorer in neal and that 50 goal scoring mvp evgeni malkin.

Small first line, give tangradi a chance on first line. Let him screen the goalies and use his size...dupes would be better with cook and sutter on 3rd line |

a line of dupuis parise and sid would win literally every loose puck though. yeah dupers hands probably cost him a goal a game but i always liked him with sid (not saying i wouldnt love an upgrade though) because he had the speed to keep up with him |

Prior to the Wideman signing, I think I mentioned on this board that Carle might be decent back-up plan if no Sutter or Allen, but word is that Carle's deal is going to top Wideman's. Panaccio is predicting something around the $6M/yr range.
Anyone on the Pens blog think Carle for 5yrs @ $5.75M/yr is a good idea?
Me neither. |

yeah true. not exaggerating, but signing carle would be a move so dumb that if shero actually were to do it i think it would really tarnish his star in my eyes |

With Parise & Crosby, that line needs to all speed all the time. Dupuis is a good fit for that. |

I couldn't say. He stands to make more money in Minnesota, and he stands to make a bit more in Detroit with the same chance of being competitive and here in Pittsburgh he can make money but Shero won't break the bank. Parise will choose and we will find out. I'd love to have him, but I don't want to see this team handcuffed like they were with both Martin/Michalek's contracts. I doubt they move Martin unless they are confident in their own D man or in a trade. Just my 2 cents |

Carle is going to go somewhere with a more glaring need and get PAID...or he will get Philly to up their bid BIG TIME. Either way he knows its time to take advantage of the market for good to great defensemen. Teams are still overpaying for it and agents know it-----> i.e. Schultz |

that is ridiculous! not saying you were wrong for suggesting him, as he is one of the higher profile guys out there right now. living in philly i watch a lot of flyers games, and he is okay, but nothing more. he looked great opposite of a healthy pronger, but then again a lot of guys would. first off, he is going to be incredibly overpaid. secondly, his skill set is average for what he is. but most of all, he literally is the exact opposite of the type of defenseman this team needs. if a team is going to overpay for him, it should be someone like the oilers, who really as of now need that decent puck moving type. |

Not unless Parise takes less then $7.5M AAV or Suter less then $6.5M AAV. And by less I mean about $500K year.
Problem is that would put us right at the cap, and not Shero likes that. IMO we would need to move Martin. |

Dupuis-Crosby- Parise
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Kennedy
Adams-Vitale-Jeffrey
Letang-Orpik
Martin- Suter
Niskanen-Engellend
Despres
Fleury
Vokoun
Say we have 14.5 in space, the bolded are the only unsigned positions.
Figure Niskanen getting 2.5 means we have 12 mill in cap space. If we sign Parise it won't be for less than 7 which takes us to 5.
We could trade Kennedy and that space goes up to 7 which might be enough to sign Suter.
Except then we need to find a 12th forward and we would have no money to upgrade elsewhere or to carry into the season/deadline.
Trade Martin for dirty underwear and we're laughing. |

no to Kennedy on this team and no to jeffery on the 4th line. we need more grit and sandpaper. go after a guy like Prust or Moen. |
