I've heard Mikhail Grigorenko is dropping pretty significantly in the "rankings" you could say. A mock draft on TSN even had him going to the Sharks. I'd love that, as I'd imagine he'd have to be the most talented player, should he be available at #17.

Situation seems really similar to Couturier last year.

If the Sharks do trade their 1st round pick, I just hope it isn't in a deal that involves Nash or Luongo. That's the last thing we need, to mortgage our future even further, while strapping our hands financially past 13-14.

Who went 8th... No way Grigs is available at 17. I'm hoping we snag a guy like Koekkoek

True. But as I said, TSN believes he'll be available at that spot.

Not trying to imply that there word is holy, but I could see it as a possibility given how deep this draft is in defensman and considering the team needs ahead of us.

Well hopefully TSN is right, I'd love to have Grigs in the system, as long as he doesn't bolt for the KHL.

If not we need a big, physical forward with skill or a solid Dman. Maybe DW will try to trade up and snag Dumba or Reinhart

I watched mock draft on NHL Network yesterday and they too had us picking Grigorenko at #17.

North American kids grow up here with the best exposure to NHL hockey and know what it takes to win.

what kinda silly junk is this?
You mean kinds who grow up in Europe and WIN with their respective clubs ... know less about winning than kids born and raised in NA but fail to win anything anywhere?
I don't understand your premise.

Look at the number of Canadians on cup winning teams. Pretty straight forward

Yet another silly comment .. look at the number of Canadian players in the NHL int he last 100 yrs ...
Course majority of the names on the cup will be Canadian ..

Well, no luck on taht, but I agree, would've been great to snag either of those two, particularly Reinhart.

Ugh.... I don't know much about either prospect except what little I've read in various pre-draft reports, but sounds like DW might have made a giant mistake drafting Hertl rather than Teravainen. :-/

Kind of reminds me of 03 (I think) when we drafted Bernier and passed on Parise with our 2nd pick in the first round.

I really hope we didn't draft another Kaspar.

Could not agree more. but similar things were said when we drafted Coyle and then he ended up being a better higher end prospect than anticipated. I think they liked this guy because he is close to NHL ready and the sharks are in a win now mentality. but i could be wrong since i dont know that much about him

Yeah - I really hope that's the case (that he's more Coyle and less Kaspar). Like most of these kids...time will tell.

Sounds like this kid has pretty good size, and they say he plays pretty physical. Hockeysfuture had a write up on him. Sounds like he's pretty slow though.

Thornton's been our best player in the regular season and playoffs for the last 2 years. He's not the issue. I wouldn't mind parting with Marleau, Boyle, and/or Clowe.
