Essentially. If we re-sign Jagr it only helps us one year, maybe two. As much as I love Jagr if you can sign a younger talent for years to come like with the names you mentioned you have to put that money to better use.

I do agree that 5th+Gardiner is probably over pay, but Edmonton could always send say a 3rd pick or something else back. I could see like 3 players and a pick going for 2nd overall.
