I don't want Nash.
Instead of the Rangers trading all of their young assets to overpay a guy who is already 28, why not package players/picks in order to make upgrades instead?
Make a trade with Winnipeg: Dubi, DZ, 1st rounder, Miller/Thomas, and even more if necessary for Kane and Bogosian. We get better at two positions, and give up valued prospects/picks in return.
Then re-sign Prust, Feds, Mitchell, Stralman, Eminger, and Biron. Then sign Semin. (It appears that Radulov’s agent confirmed that he is going back to Russia for a year)
With the extra cap space we have, Drury’s buyout hit going away, Feds being on a one year deal, Radulov and Rupp being on deals with 2 years left, and a few others being free agents, we’ll be able to retain all of our RFA’s. That, IMO, is how you build a team that can succeed in the long-run, instead of betting in the next 2 years with Nash we can win.

SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,178,334; BONUSES: $2,100,000
CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $4,121,666
If you want to replace Feds with a younger/faster guy, that’s fine. If you want to replace MItchell with someone else, that’s fine too. I just figured Mitchell is a good keep because he can play anywhere (4th line when everyone is healthy, 3rd line when we have injuries), and Feds is a good vet to have that can step in anywhere in the lineup and perform decently enough.
Our top 4 Dmen are set, and from there you have a pivot between Erixon/Stralman/Eminger to form a 3rd pair. Obviously try to sign Schultz, and if we can get him even better, but we shouldn’t be relying on him. And if Sauer can come back, that will help us as well.
I like this team because we keep cap flexibility moving forward, and with some small moves we should be able to re-sign all of our RFA’s, and keep the core intact. It allows us to have a good, deep team, without adding another monstrous contract that will be impossible to move.
The difference between $7.8 million and $5.0 million may not seem like much, but it is the difference between having a Callahan at $4.3 million and a Rupp at $1.5 million. Nash and Rupp or Kane and Cally?
That's much better than any lineup the Rangers could produce with Nash in it. |

While everything has been pretty quiet in terms of who's offering what and if the asking price for Nash is the same now as it was at the Trade Deadline, but one thing is for sure; the New York Rangers are still the favorite.
Why is it for sure? Different people have different favorites in the Nash race. Just because you think that the Rangers are the favorites it doesn't make it "for sure". |

Disagree on every point. I think every team knows Kreider is untouchable, and Hagelin doesn't have a huge ceiling. Nash is well above average. Who has been his best center? A washed up Fedorov? Best linemate? Best defensman he's played with? He's been a one man show for a while and there's only so far that can take you. And why does nash have an ego? Because he doesn't want to waste another 5 years of his career playing in the World Championships? |

Guys we do have to remember this is Sather here. As much as many of us may hate him, the man makes some unbelievable trades. Hell he traded Gomez and got Mcdonagh, he managed to get someone to take Brashear. If he could get someone else to work with the UFAs he would be an amazing GM |

Jeez, no one likes a good troll anymore. Obviously I think the Jackets are asking a bit much for him, and not even Sather is stupid enough to trade Kreider away..
I'm all for Nash getting a chance on a team that actually gives him a shot at winning.. remember I live in South Florida and am a Heat fan, so I defended Lebron for leaving the Cavs. Nash has no ego, I was kidding. My God people.. lighten up. |

Hagelin is a 3rd line player. I love hags but he will never sniff 30-40 goals. Rick Nash playing with a legit playmaking center would put better numbers. Speaking about over paying for players, all the Panthers did last off season was over pay for players. |
