probably one of the best 3rd liners in the league... definitely one of the most physical forwards... would instantly improve team toughness and the PK.

pretty damned good on the face-off dot too... hell, if we can't find a better center all summer long, he could probably replace Bozak. Not that that's ideal.

Mike, quite frankly that's a pretty low value proposition for the Leafs. Take an older smaller agitator with 3 line ceiling potential - who's in decline - and deal him for a young pretty gifted guy who's potential would seem to be reasonably high.

I don't like it... seems like throwing away an asset to me.

I'd rather spend more more and not surrender the asset on a Free Agent.

This assumes that somehow magically BB will provide a roster that doesn't have the names Komisarek, Connolly and Lombardi on it.

Sure, if Dallas could be convinced to run with it. Franson just isn't going to fight his way through the defensive backlog. Turn that extra D into a huge upgrade on the third line? Ok, sure.

Yes, Blacker, Holzer, and Percy lead the way there... Mikus and Lashoff are probably heading over to Europe... but who knows, maybe we're getting Shultz.

Not to mention guys we draft this time around... all the good forwards might be gone by the time we draft... Leaving us with Murray/Dumba.

We have a good group of young dmen and another group of up and comers, plus the hope of Schultz

Why trade Franson for Ott when you can move up to 2nd with him?

Every year it's the same story. The Leafs have "too many defenders" and Leafs fans expect half of them to get traded but they rarely do. Burke always likes to have plenty of defenders because he knows that half of them suck and the other half of them get hurt.

The Leafs might trade one defender somewhere along the way but he usually doesn't.

Why trade Franson for Ott when you can move up to 2nd with him?
