If Hartley is in fact selected then you are not the only one to think that veuilleux will be quick behind him. There has also been alot of banter about Therrien and Hartley possibly teaming up as well as the 3rd head behind the bench.

Question I have is where would Cunneyworth fit in since Bergevin has already decided to keep him on the staff.

Veilluex also coached the Hawkesbury Hawkes to the Telus Cup in 2004 where Bob Hartley (lockout year) served as an associate coach, helping out here and there with the team

If Hartley gets the job, I could almost guarantee Veilleux will be there in some capacity or not, since they have been linked for nearly a decade

Bergevin said that the Head Coach will choose Cunneyworths fate.. If he wants him he can have him if not he will be released/reassigned

Actually the link between the two goes back two decades to the Laval Titan in 1991. And the lockout year with the Hawkesbury Hawkes makes sense as this is Bob's home town where the city's sports center is called the "Complexe Sportif Robert Hartley"!

Excellent article, Scoop, and an interesting suggestion. I think that duo could be very helpful in rebuilding the Habs, and I think Marc Bergevin would be able to work well with those two in that rebuild. Perhaps there's a possibility Devils' assistant Larry Robinson can join the two as an assistant coach as well, with a triumphant return to Montreal?

Robinson returning to the Canadiens as an assistant coach would certainly be a popular hockey move in Montreal although Randy Ladouceur is already there to coach the defensemen. (Larry Carriere was also a defenseman but is returning to his post as an Asst GM.) If Bob Hartley takes the reins as head coach he would certainly have major input as to assistant coaches and whether to retain Ladouceur and Randy Cunneyworth and/or any additions. As far as I know Bob does not have any particular relationship with Robinson but does have a close twenty-year one with Eric Veilleux which is often a key. Also Bob is not known as a coach who tends to be "close" with young players so Veilleux's experience of having coached juniors for the past seven years could also be something that he would want to have on his staff.

Interesting blog.

I'm too young to remember Veilleux, but with the antics he had behind the bench, I can imagine what he was on the ice

UPDATE: Bob Hartley hired as the new head coach of the Calgary Flames on May 31 by GM Jay Feaster for whom he also worked in Hershey. Whether or not he brings Veilleux along with him is yet to be determined.
