Would You Take a Bullet for the President?

Not only would I NOT take a bullet for the president... If someone was shooting at us, I'd use him as a shield.

Hey Clouts,

So J. Schultz is officially out of U of W. I would imagine Ana will try to trade his rights, to get something out of this. Any idea what the asking price would be? I think it would be interesting if the Oilers offered Omark, giving another another potential top 6 guy to replace Jason Blake. Your thoughts?

Good Blog Rich. Made me laugh but I think your take on Sutter is a little off.

I think bringing in Sutter (or someone like him) will actually push the young guys to get better. Hall, Ebs and RNH don't like to lose and neither do the Sutters. The core of the Oilers (See 3 above) and guys like Gagner, Smid, Petry, Harti and Maybe PRV will thrive under Sutter because he will push them. Even some vets like Whitney, Maybe Jones, Eager, Etc. will be better.

The thing I like the most about Oilers hiring some one like Sutter is that he won't put up with losing attitude or guys not trying (See Hemsky) as well as he isn't afraid to tell someone to "Go F*** Yourself" (See Tambi and Lowe.) He is a smart hockey guy, other wise he would have taken the job with the Flamers.

These are my thoughts. It doesn't have to be Sutter but Edmonton needs a guy that will push the team and bring some accountability to the room (Pretty obvious accountability isn't going to come from management).

I want to here what RNH, and Es have to say about playing for him. Add Gagner onto that list two. I don't care if Horcoff, Smyth and Hemsky don't like playing for him. They won't be here in a couple years anyways, so who care what they think.

I do have to correct you on one thing though....

Brent Sutter is actually a pretty decent guy, quick with a joke, and can speak quite well. I think you got him and Daryl mixed up.

One more thing....When was the last time that the Oilers dressing room wasn't divided??? Anyone????

Again, great blog Guy. I think you pegged Lowe, dead on. Sutter likes Beef though (Herring???? Where do you buy herring in Alberta????)

PS It really doesn't matter who the Oilers bring into coach...they still aren't going to be making the play-offs next year...way to match dead weight (See Horcoff, Hemsky, Smyth, Khabi, Etc)

Personally, I would absolutely trade Omark to Anaheim to get Justin Schultz's rights. That would give us 30 days (maybe less depending on when it's done) to talk to him and his agent. Considering Omark is probably only worth 5th or 6th round pick anyways....

As for Sutter, I soooo hope we don't hire him but I can see it happening. Personally, I'd prefer to give the reigns to Ralph Kruger. I loved the way the Oilers played under him during that short stint when Renney had that concussion.

"I can see how this is going to go: Under Sutter, the muckers are going to get a ton of ice time, and the skilled guys are going to sit. He'll decide very quickly who he likes and who he doesn't, which will divide the room and could squander the potential of several promising young players. "

This is where you're wrong Richard. Sutter has always pointed out his best players and gave them a ton of ice time, always. Hell, even when Sven Baertschi came up for a cup of coffee Sutter gave him solid minutes as he was playing well. Sutter isn't a guy that plays the muckers over the talent, never has. Brent himself was a talented player - look at his NHL stats, he was a big point producer.

It's also interesting to note that Darryl Sutter right now is being looked upon as a top coach. Colin Fraser was quoted saying when he played for Brent Sutter in Red Deer that Brent ran the same practices as Darryl does in LA. That they are very similar as coaches (Darryl Coached Brent in Chicago). Colin Fraser also said that both men are stern but that they award the players. Meaning those who play well and give it there all will get the ice time.

Hey Laughs, I think you should post "the room" in every forum you can. That is the best(worst) movie ever made. Tommy Wiseau is either a genius or the stupidest man alive. Also check out the Tommy Wi-show on youtube, he reviews video games with aliens. Here is a link to the best scenes from the room. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/wa...om%26aq%3Df%26aqi%3Dg10%2

I think there is alot more behind this such as certain young players werent responding to renney's style(like not playing the kids enough throughout the year).

Sutter used RNH and Eberle quite alot during the WC. Renney seemed a bit to cautious and relied on the belangers and horcoffs a little to much.

I mean if u are going to miss the playoffs and are almost certain to finish bottom 5 in the league, then why not let your young guns have the minutes and gain confidence and exp in pressure situations.

i know i might sound like a broken record when i say this but i think omark and maybe a 4th or 5th rounder should be enough. bryzgalov got traded for a 3rd and an ahl'er so i wouldnt see a guy whos never played in the nhl get more than that.

Richard one thing you forget about Crawford is the cup he won with Colorado was with a veteran laden team with the likes of Sakic, Hejduk, Forsberg, Foote, Lemieux and of course, Patrick Roy. That team is 50 million miles above the Oilers right now. Any coach could have won a cup with that team so I don't think that's a fair comparison.

As for his record in Calgary, I don't think that's a fair comparison either. He was coaching a team where mgmt didn't share the same philosophy as him with regards to having youth and energy. Calgary mgmt traded all their picks away and thus really, after Iggy and Kipper there was not much there. At least they Oil have the youth coming and Sutter's track record with young teams speaks volumes (see the Rebels and the Cdn Jr team).

I think I would really prefer to have either Nelson or Krueger, but I would be okay with Sutter as well. As many have said as well, it won't matter who the hell the coach is if all the players are not buying into the fact that they need 110% effort every game... no exceptions.

It's about Sutter. Did you expect sunshine and rainbows?

I'd rather let the players coach themselves than have Sutter be the Head Coach.

Stop sugar coating it. How do you really feel about Sutter as head coach?

Don't hire Sutter. The Oilers have so much great young talent. They need a systems coach and some younger assistants who can relate to the kids. That means guys who aren't that far removed from the game or who have history in that city.

Bring Carbonneau as the head coach. Bring Huddy back as one coach for the defense. Bring Hanlon in to coach the goalies. Steal Oates from NJ to coach the young forwards.

Or just hire Carbonneau. He's by far the best option for that team or any team needing a coach imo.
