Gotta say Ian, not liking that pick for the Nucks! Anton Rodin the 2nd? Same type of player.

imo he is better than Rodin (although is do like Rodin).

Aberg played in the SEL last year, while Rodin was still in Jr for his draft year.

Aberg is also a better skater who hits more.

No way Tom Wilson will go at 13.

Gillis will just take the guy that drops like he has in the past. I'd be happy with Aberg only if Gradin is adamant about it. He'd be a solid pick up. Also if Koekkoek is still there I think Gillis would take him.

I know its the NHL draft and you should take the BPA most of the time. But the last thing the Sabres need is more dmen in the system. If they stay where they are I can see them taking the best forward available with the 12(sounds like it could be Zemgus, or I can definitely see Teuvo falling a lot in the draft due to his size and the Sabres taking him at 12) and then go BPA with the 21st pick.

Wilson and Pearson both seemed out of place in the first round to me, based on everything else I've read anyway. I love Dumba for the Isles, but I can't imagine we pass on the talent of Galchenyuk if he's still on the board at 4.

I don't believe Forsberg drops down to 9th.... and I can only see the Habs drafting Grigorenko if Roy is set to be the Habs coach (or part of the management team).

What is with you and Button thinking the Ducks need a wing, and a puny one at that. The Ducks need centers and defense. There's no chance they take Teravainen with Reinhardt, Reilly, Trouba, and Maatta still available. Hell, they'll take Forsburg over Teravainen. That puny little runt is a second round project.

Hate to break it to you but the Ducks need wingers to. Teravainen is a great player, who just needs to get stronger. Almost everyone has him top 15 now and I suspect he will go in the top 15.

A few things off about the mock draft too. I can honestly see the canucks taking another Swede. I mean there is nothing wrong with Swedish players but I would like to see some more tough Canadian boys taken by the Canucks. Its what the Canucks do. We have the sedins and they are great so we keep on drafting players from sweden in hopes we get another two great Sweden players (lucky with Edler too). Its not going to happen though. Same as when we had Bure we drafted a bunch of russian players that have never came over. Last year Hansen had a great year so what do we do, we draft a dane in Jensen.

So what you are saying is that if Aberg was from Saskatoon you would be ok with the pick.

Have you watched Sweden lately? They play just as "Canadian" as Canada now.

Passports have nothing to do with drafting a player. You should always take the best one regardless of where they are from. Being scared to take the Europeon is why teams passed on Kopitar.

Hansen's success had nothing to do with picking Jensen. Jensen was the BPA in a lot of people's minds at 29. That is why he was picked there. He was ranked 20-25 by most scouts, so if he's there at 29 what was Gillis supose to do? Pass because he's not Canadian.

Ya and for some reason I'm not sold on Dumba. No way the Islanders should take him 4th. I think his skill set wont translate as well to the NHL as most think.

Many mocks have him at #5 which would be awesome.

I have heard though that Grigs is falling down a few spots so MTL may take Gally at #3.

Looking forward to seeing what happens.....

IMO, Dumba is the best player in the draft. He has it all and has played well in the spotlight.

I hope Gillis finds a way to move up and steal him

top 3 defenseman are a lot easier to find than top 3 forwards. Galchenyuk would be a way better pick. The Islanders have Hamonic already there to build around. Look at the Canucks for example. Hamhuis was a free agent signing, Edler third round, Bieksa fifth round, Tanev underafted college free agent. Salo came in a trade. Even our top defensive prospects were picked in the middle rounds. Unless the defenseman is a Doughty or a Pietrangelo..... I think teams should always take the forward with high potential high in the draft. Having said that Murray is also a guy I would take high but I dont think he will be there when the Islanders pick.

All well and good, but, as you say, the kids not ready. I don't even think he's close to being big enough. Unless Murray can sign Justin Schultz, Anaheim will draft a defenseman. Unless the league changes the rules, defense wins championships right now.

Disagree but we will wee. He has a lot of good attributes that bring him CHL success but I think he'll become NHL average when he gets there. IMO bust written all over him. I think his defensive awareness is weak.

"A Cowen/Ceci duo could become the best shutdown pair in the NHL"

Unlikely, since Ceci doesn't play a shutdown game.

A center, very weak at the center position!
