Well, Bilyaletdinov *does* have coaching experience in North America (Winnipeg & Phoenix), although that was like 15+ years ago.

They could hire this guy (not typing that name out). Or they could do what would probably help the team in the long run, which is trade Ovechkin. I'm dead serious. If this Ovechkin can't carry a team through the playoffs and the Caps have to find a coach that he likes playing for, the Caps are better off just trading him for a king's ransom and starting over.

I nominate Ovechkin as coach and run this team Reggie Dunlap style. Ovi will never like a coach that holds him accountable for his many flaws. If the caps hire a coach that caters to Ovi's liking the Caps will never win

Yep. I remember back in the summer of 06' my buddies bro in law(from virginia) was bragging about how the caps with Ovetchkin were going to win multiple stanley cups. I didn't buy it then and I still don't buy it now. When I saw that Pens/Caps 24/7 thing on HBO I knew there was something seriously wrong with the caps.

I've been an Ovie fan since he came into the league, but wow did he look bad during the regular season and playoffs this year. Maybe the entire league has caught up to him or maybe he just doesn't care, but I felt like his flaws were on display for the entire league to see this year. He's never looked this bad. I feel like Hunter didn't have a choice but to cut his ice time down the stretch and in the playoffs because he was such a liability on the ice aside from a few games. People gave #8 credit for "buying in" to Hunter's system, but I don't buy it. It's a shame really because IMO, he's the best player in the league.

Ovi will be fine. The Rangers were lucky to beat them. The NHL is not a one man league. A full season with Backstrom, Green, Holtby playing at the top of their game and they will be contenders. You cant win with just 1 or 2 star players anymore. It takes a full team. Example Pittsburgh this season. Ovi is a goal scorer, game changer not a devensive forward I think we all knew that. If Washington were playing Philly or Pittsburgh it would have looked alot different

Agreed, 11 goals the most ever in worlds. Plus he won the scoring title in the NHL. Last player to lead in both was Gretz. Nuff said.

..."zero to hero"? Did you watch both the series? Hunter would play his poopty style until the Caps inevitably relinquished the lead, and THEN he'd throw out OV, Nicky, Semin and Green to get it back again.

Despite the ice-time, and the rather disadvantaged scenarios he was played in, he lead the team in points and hits, and bought into the 'defense first' approach probably as best he could.

To say OV had a bad playoffs, which is what you infer, is almost laughably mistaken.

There's no need to make poop up simply to try and make your article have a bit more zing; and yes ofcourse I'm 'biased', but this needed a response.

Anyways, congrats to team Russia; they completely dominated this tournie; if they pull it together like this for the Olympics (as they were predicted to for Vancouver) they will be hard to beat.

As for Hunter, he seemed way too uncomfortable in his own skin; I'm pretty relieved Dale won't be returning come fall.

you know, i think it's quite simple.

either Ovechkin needs to become a team player and a real captain, or you should trade him to a city where hockey isn't important and he can play out his prime and then spend his last 4-5 years on a team with a lesser role and try and win a cup.

if ovechkin wants to win in DC, then he needs a coach that will show him how to be a team player. As much as Therrein was criticized in Pittsburgh and as much as the players had issues with him, he made guys like Malkin and Oprik better players that ultimately led to a Cup. The capitals need a coach like that.

Even though im a penguins fan, i still want to see Ovie win a cup one day. special players like him should win a cup, but he needs to work for it.

Oh, but when people used to say "Crosby isn't even the best on the team, Malkin is", the Pens fans would get all uptight and say how stupid of a sentence that is. I am a huge Backstrom fan, but lets not say things which are just flat out stupid. What Ovi did his first 5 years in the league, and really 6, was just insane, and if he could do it before, there is no reason why he can't do it again.
