But they can’t do their job properly if they’re interrupted trying to do it.

This must be the most interrupted franchise EVER.

Yes it does.
Morning skate loosens up your legs. You can stretch all you want - nothing simulates skating better than.....wait for it.....skating. Leg muscles are huge and build up lactic acid when you put the type strain on them that skating induces.
Skating 6-8 hours BEFORE the game allows the lactic acid to dissipate without causing cramps and fatigue, later. I play beer league and whenever I can skate at lunchtime the day of my game, my legs ALWAYS have more pop for the evening and don't get tightness/cramping.

In regards to open or closed practices.....lots of other teams do it....but we don't because we know something the other 29 teams don't and our record speaks for itself. As for it getting too crowded because of ALL the MEDIA people are there kinda makes me laugh. I have to scour the newspapers for stories regarding the Isles in all papers except Newsday. Post & News only pick up AP Wire stories, even at home games.

How about all the games(I think the final count was NINE) when the opposition scored on their first shot of the game?? Can't blame the goalies on all of 'em.
Hit the ice with dead legs and bad things happen. Cappy did not have his team ready every night. Maybe if they were on a streak of ten wins and all was going well, I could see the "optional" option as a reward but I don't recall any such stretches of Islander dominance. I can understand the optional option when you're playing back-to-back nights and traveling after the game, arriving late in another city and not getting to bed before the wee hours but when you're off for 3-4 days, it helps get you ready for the speed of the game. Casey regrets he didn't take batting practice that fateful day.... Sadly, we're not good enough to be taking ANYTHING off.

Hey.. any game where they gave up the first goal on the first shot or completely crap the bed... I think they should have a full practice AFTER the game. Do that once or twice & i bet it wont happen again.
But making practice mandatory on game days.... i dont see the need.

Isles want a closed practice because they do not want fans to get an up close and personal view of the minor league coaching staff. Closed practices have done wonders for this team. They are always focused.

Yeah, saw the Chesnokov tweet, turned out it was only that KHL team contacting players in case of a lockout next year. Good news.

Seems when they had open practice this team ended the season with better records, just sayin

"These guys are going to work every day just like we all go to work and if you had someone stopping you everywhere you go, it does become distracting. It’s important. We want these guys to win every night so we want them to be as focused as possible.”

Are they serious with this statement?? I go up there every now and then cause I'm friends with a few that work there, I see what goes on. I guess the guys sewing a cell phone into a goalies pants and calling it during the practice and having him wondering where the sound was coming from and laughing at him all practice wasn't distracting. I know many around the league like to play pranks on each other but If the fans only knew half of the stuff our team does at practice.

But fans watching a practice happen, too much of a distraction

Perhaps that's the reason they had a losing record at home, the 10,000 fans that showed were there distracting them, next time stay home so they can win

When is this team going to stop being a minor league operation? The Devils and Rangers are playing to go to the Cup and we get this garbage.
