Are you kidding me? Seriously just leave the guy be and see what he does. Who fracking cares what the media thinks of the guy or how many off the wall quotes he gives! Booing him at games and ripping him in the media isn't going to do anyone any good. As long as he stops the puck when he should and keeps the Flyers in games, he could wear a pink tutu doing it and I could care less! He's an emotional, caring individual and wears his heart on his sleeve. Nothing wrong with that as long as he continues to work at being an elite goaltender.

instead of focusing on the philly fans and being so sensitive he needs to focus on stopping the puck, controling rebounds and handling the puck

I agree his game needs some work, but he was simply reflecting on the year as a whole and how he felt about it. I think he's permitted some time to do that before he starts working on fixing holes in his game!

Holmgren said, and I agree with him, that Bryzgalov did not play as well this season on the whole as the club had hoped. Apart from early October, the month of March, and lengthy segments of individual playoff games (especially the second period of Game 2 of the Flyers-Devils series), Bryzgalov did not play at anything close to an elite caliber.

...

Come next season, the Flyers hope to see something closer to the player who backstopped them down the stretch until sustaining a chip fracture in his foot. Once the foot was reasonably healed -- and I don't think that happened until the New Jersey series -- Bryzgalov did a decent job again of stopping the puck. Yes, he made a huge gaffe in Game 5 that proved extremely costly. But Bryzgalov was not the reason the Flyers were on a do-or-die situation in the first place.

His focus level and stickhandling are another story, though. Those still need re-commitment from Bryzgalov to be a more consistent player next season.

I agree with this statement 100%. I think the crowd that has an excuse for everything Bryzgalov is incorrect. The goalie had a sub-par season and it wasn't just the defense or the forwards or the fact he moved to a new town. Bottom line, he didn't perform to an elite level and has plenty to work on this offseason. Bryz should be expected to play at an elite level on a consistant basis. They didn't make him the highest paid player on the team in terms of actual dollars to put up journeyman numbers. He may not have been the reason they were in a do or die situation but one of the reasons they got him was so that they had someone who wouldn't make a mistake in those situations.

I really don't care if he ever talks to the press again as long he's performing on the ice.

Awesome Bill. I share your loathing of the Rangers. Hopefully Washington takes them out tonight. After that, i am rooting for the Kings.

Also, you know Bettman would love a NJ Phoenix finals!

{Jagr} also stressed yesterday that it will be a hockey decision from his standpoint, not a money or sentimental one.

With his influence on the kids and in the room, I'd like to see him back in the Orange and Black for another season. He nudged Giroux to step up his game all year.

Less of a cap hit would be nice, but if they can squeeze him in - and he wants to give it another go in Philly - I'd be happy to have him.

That makes two of us that won't be pulling for the Rangers. I dispise everything about them.
Time for Homer to start laying out the offseason plans. I have full confidence that he will improve this team.

What they pay him has no affect on the level of his play. None. Throwing money at a goalie, or any player really, isn't going to make him elite. The Flyers overpaid to get the guy they wanted.

Also, you can't single out Bryzgalov as the sole reason for the sub-par season. Just like it wasn't just the defense or the new town, it wasn't just his play. It was everything. Could he have played better? Absolutely. No one's denying that. But you have to look at the big picture. Part of that was the brutal defensive showing by the team on some nights. I don't care if you're starting Patrick Roy in his prime, when the quality scoring chances build up, goals are going to get scored. It's not just about stats at the end of the year.

Yikes! No wonder they looked a little lethargic during the Devils series. There were many who said that after the Flyers/Pens series, whoever won would be severely banged up...guess for once they were right

Hate the Rags and it starts with that d-bag Tortorella! Mike Rupp can go fly a kite too...was hoping someone was gonna drop the gloves with that guy after he mocked Jagr's salute!

I have to give it up to hockey players, I don't hear of any other sport where players play through injuries the way hockey players do.

Expectations will never be met, imo, if people are expecting an elite goaltender.

That's because in all the other sports, for the most part, they twist an ankle and are out for months upon end. Hockey players are the ultimate competitors and probably why they are so endearing to those of us that are fans of the sport! Definitely a rare breed!

I think people expect elite because of how he is paid...and yes you're correct that may be an unreasonable expectation. Will he ever be on the level with Lunqvist and Quick...maybe not but as long as he stops what he should and can make a game changing save here and there, I'll be more than happy!
