John Toperzer: Yevgeni Malkin headlines Russia's entry into IIHF Worlds It looks like Geno will serve as the lone Penguins player to participate in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship in Helsinki and Stockholm.

Sorry Johhny but as along as the best new world tournament player is in this... Eberle, Canada will take the cake. And plus Fleury isn't backstopping Canada

Ted Nolan is the head coach of Latvia? Bizarre. He really pissed off the wrong people in North America huh? Too bad, he was a really good coach.

Banging Haseks wife didn't help his cause. At least that is the rumor in these parts

Strange, I thought that sort of thing just got you traded to LA.

I just thought you guys might like how I spelled "Y-e-v-g-e-n-i" in the title line like it's spelled on the IIHF site.

You think he's going to win the Hart? And as a followup, would he have still won it after Round 1 (had they not voted right after the regular season)?

immaterial. NHL awards are reg season. thats why many consider Conn Smythe to perhaps be the most meaningful award.

Yes he will. No he probably wouldn't if they took the 1st round into consideration. But they don't. Hopefully he would trade it in to still be playing though, that's the mindset he needs to have.

I think he will win it. He would not win if they voted after the season. The world is so instant everything these days. Giroux goes from great new up-and-comer to best player in the world in 6 games.

It's easier for me because my son in law is a Caps fan and he is a really good guy. Whats wierd to me is we all figured Pens would go deep and give us some solid enjoyment as we went on a long ride. At least thats what we thought would happen.

Instead of a long exciting ride it's like the bus got a flat on the way out of town and we aren't going anywhere. Hard to hide my dissappointment, sorry. If they did their best and lost I would be more OK than I am. I promise I will try to move on.

For sure. Was thinking about it today when all I could find was NFL draft talk. Hasn't really set in that the Pens laid such a rotten egg.

Ok, I hate to contribute to this talk but I'm bored watching the game. I've thought of a trade I would do for Malkin. I just love the way Backes plays and think he would be a perfect player for us.

Malkin & Martin

for

Backes and Pietrangelo

Then use the 6 mill+ cap savings on Parise.

Parise-Crosby-Staal
Kunitz-Backes-Neal

Pietrangelo Letang

And no, I don't actually think either team would do it.

Have been to Latvia three times over the last 11 months and saw my first KHL game in Riga. The place is nuts for hockey - very passionate. Latvia has some nice up and coming talent.

I'm a big Pietrangelo fan. I'd prefer Oshie over Backes. But I do like Backes.

Multiple Norris' in that kids future.

I'm sticking with Backes, he's a warrior and exactly the kind of playoff player we need imo. Plus he's signed at 4.5 until 15/16. Absolute bargain.

Love Backes ... he is a warrior. He doesn't play soft whatsoever. Prefer Shattenkirk over Pieterangelo. Both seem to be offensive minded, but Shattenkirk doesn't seem to be as soft.

You would be kicking yourself in 2 years I think. Pietrangelo hasn't even began to approach his ceiling, they missed him badly in the 3rd tonight, hopefully he's ok.

I don't think you could go wrong with either. They both would fit.
