Yes, it was a terrible trade for Vancouver to make before the playoffs. The impact of Kassian was not immediate, but I doubt that was the reason for the trade. Likely, Gillis needed CoHo gone and he got an offer he liked. If the winner of the trade is measured only by the 2011-2012 season and playoffs, both teams are pretty clearly losers. Kassian is still a year younger than Hodgson. We'll have to see how he shapes up after the summer.

Kassian has the better resume from the minors. Power forwards are a tough bunch to predict. Bertuzzi had a good rookie season and then sucked until his 5th year in the league. How ever it turns out, Kassian wasn't the guy to help the Canucks win this year, so it was a badly timed move. I think it's safe to assume that Gillis had some reason to make the trade that had nothing to do with what we saw on the ice.
