Eklund: The Difference Between "being given C" and Flat Out Demanding/Taking It.

Could not care less if this team has a captain. Never understood why people made such a big deal about a guy having a C on a jersey.


A guy doesn't have to have a C on his chest to be the "captain".


Hell if they "had" to give it to someone i'd choose Kimmo or Danny assuming Prongs is done (which he likely is). Im sure in the future G will be wearing it.

...being a Sabre fan almost guarantees that you hate the flyers. But, I'm finding it hard these days. I miss Briere badly, the Sabres have a good team but lack any gamers. Briere is this through and through, the stage is never too big for him. Facepalm action follows every playoff goal he scores for you guys. And Giroux....what can I say that hasn't been said. He's a fantastic player, with all kinds of leadership and heart. Also jealous of the embarrassment of riches in Philly....Schenn, JVR, Couturier, Read, etc. Hartnell and Simmonds are great too....Holmgren has done a great job, wish I could say the same for our GM.

When an incredibly skilled player show the drive and determination to win that CG does.. He deserves the "C". If he wasn't as intense a player and already a leader on this team I would be hesitent to place the "C" on him this early, but he has already CLEARLY become the leader of this team. It would be thought of as well deserved, earned, etc. in the locker room.

SPeaking of guys earning the "C" .. JT should be named Isles captain as he was the only guy who came to play every night.

Islanders would still take either Ty Wishart or Okposo ahead of him.. then trade both for a 4th round pick and future considerations.
