crap playing at noon on nbc... we dont have a good record for that...

2012- record 2 (wash,bos)-3 (phi, phi, buf), both wins were at home
2011- record 0-4 (wash,wash,chi,nyr), 1 was classic, 2 were at 1230, 1 was at 330
2010- record 2 (phi,det)-1 (wash), 1 win was at home, the other ended in SO, the lost was OT
2009- record was 1 (nyr)-3 (det, wash, phi), win was at home

so it looks like we are:
5-11 all time on sundays

1-3 vs phi on sunday afternoon games on nbc
0-3 vs phi when in phi....

time to break the cycle...LETS GO PENS!!!

Its worth reposting that Lidstrom's all time +/- is +450.

The Pens need to get a couple behind Bryz early on Sunday...if that happens, watch how quickly that crowd will turn on them.

I always appreciated how Lidstrom was and still is able to avoid taking much punishment in games. For a defenseman that is very impressive and probably the major contributing factor to his longevity in the league. I doubt he retires. They still have a good core just have to retool a bit and they are contenders again.

sunday playoffs

2012- 0-1, vs phi @ phi

I believe the Flyers are 3 - 8 - 2 in afternoon games ... so they pretty much suck as well.

great game last night. even though my team lost I think that was a fantastic playoff game. MAF was phenomenal.

Oh, come on...can't let Forsberg down.

EDIT - Yes, he's lobbying for sports betting company. Our games are supposed to be in the afternoon so that Europeans can wager on them and watch.

Very close game..the Flyers hit two posts in the first or else it easily could have been 3-1 and who knows what happens from there on..

MAF was the star for the Pens... The Flyers swarmed over the second half of the 3 and he was the only reason the game was not tied..

The refs missed calls both way..Malkin pretending he was playing soccer in the first while Coburn with a blatant and obvious trip near the end of the 3.

Bryz played ok... Credit to the Pens for making some great shots on 2 of their 3 goals..the first was just a good passing play..

The Flyers defensive breakdown on the 3 goal was horrible.

The Cooke play at the end of the game was unnecessary but no harm, no foul.

Giroux, Malkin and Staal are at a different level then everyone else right now.

Malkin is borderline when it comes into clean play. You can make a case either way that his various hits are either dirty or clean (depending on which city you come from) Being honest Lindros, Messier and Forsberg are my favorite players ever and they were all borderline dirty also.

I can't wait for tomorrow as both teams finally decided to play some playoff hockey..

Good luck pens and Lets go Flyers!

Very fair and honest summary. Malkin is hardly lilly white and definitely plays with an edge to his game. He needs to reall himself in a bit though because he took 2 dumb penalties last night that were almost crippling.

The difference in teh game last night was they managed to kill his second penalty and the dumb Tyler Kennedy penalty in the 3rd...mostly thanks to MAF and better defensive presence around him (and a little luck too)

I don't see it as unnecessary. At that point Cooke knew that there would be another 60 minutes to play and he was delivering a message. In my opinion Giroux has had far too much room and it's about time someone attempted to put him through the boards.

The same thing happened with St. Louis last year, the Penguins let him skate around and make cute passes and it burned them. This year Giroux has 11 points and if you ask me none of them have been earned, because the Penguins have just not played him hard enough.

I feel that this series might have been different if the Penguins would have hit Giroux and Jagr more often. I get being physical as builds momentum and creates energy but who really cares is Lilja gets hit. He plays 8 minutes a game, they should be hitting Giroux, Jagr, Briere, and Timmonen every chance they get.

if we put the body on all of them, then they wont score... my dad always told me growing up "they cant score if they are on their a$$" to this day i tell the kids i coach the same thing... if you have the chance to hit or steal the puck, take the hit bc 8 out of 10 times you wont actually get the puck...

2 things i noticed at the game last night other then labatt blue runs through me very quickly and there arent enough mens bathrooms at a hockey arena....

1) if the pens would step up more at the blueline the flyers wouldnt have that many great chances.. it seems like the D lets them skate in and then the do their little passing around before we step up

2) during the pens pk, they are tyring to pressure the flyers and a player always seems to be open on the flowers glove side, i think if they lay off them and play alittle more man to man instead of zone, they would limit the flyers pp goals...

Couturier did it to Malkin at the Flyers blueline in the first. Malkin was dangling and Couturier could have attempted to take the puck but he took the man. It's something that every coach teaches. The Pens need to include in their plans, especially for Claude.

I was at the game last night. Absolutely electric atmosphere! I've been to lots of playoff games and that was as loud as I can remember.

I don't know if this came across on TV, but I noticed that Giroux does a lot of whining to the refs....ALOT! It's not like he has the C on his chest. I could only imagine if that were Crosby.

I've been saying the need to hit Jagr as much as humanly possible. His puck possession is still amazing.....for a 40 year old it's absolutely incredible. He just turns his big ass and guys bounce off him.....especially our smallish D. It's not a coincidence that Hartnell and Giroux are having monster years when you have a guy that is so strong on the puck.

Fair enough post we will just have to disagree..

You think the Pens are not playing him hard enough but the thing about great players is they make it look like things are not earned. LIke i said...I respect your opinion I just disagree with it..

Good point..if i was going to defend the Flyers first unit which is about as deadly as there is in the NHL it would be by playing a bit passive.. If you push too much they are good and skilled enough to move it around you with quick passes.
