Todd, you may want to note that the Caps may have to rely on 3rd string goaltender holtby for the playoffs after neuvirth got hurt in last nights game. |

I'd be pretty confident against either the Caps or Panthers in the first round. I'd personally rather the play Florida because I'm living in Miami right now and would totally try to go to a game or two. |

Don't care either way who we play. Just glad we don't have to face the pens in round one. |

Top line was shut down last night by Detroit. Zajac still looks rusty, but hopefully he can start doing more offensively once we get into the playoffs. Zidlicky was very solid. Him and Salvador are probably our best D pairing. Other than a bad giveaway early in the game by Harrold he was good. His skating and puck moving ability is a definite asset. |

Gionta called up today.
And the call-ups only apply to the regular season, so the Devils can call up whoever they want in the playoffs.
Who do you think we call up?
I would say Urbom, Taormina, Zharkov, Zalewski, and Gionta/Sestito/Mills.
I guess they called up Gionta because the other players already got their shot, so let's see what he can do... |

the caps certainly arent going to let the other playoff teams know the true nature of his injury. day-to-day could mean the entire first round |

i think we're calling up Gionta because he has so much experience and I suppose poise. He's the captain in Albany, which must be worth something. I'm sure going into the playoffs they want someone responsible and seasoned on the 4th line. |

Kinda was hoping for Sestito to move carter back to wing... but I trust Lou and Pete. |

Gionta is a center, and he practiced there today. |

Intersting. Lack of size could be a problem but he certainly is more skilled than anyone we could have put as the 4th line C. |

Since Clemmensen joined Florida three years ago, he's 4 and 1 against us. That's the only thing I'm worried about the Panthers. And for Washington, Chimera has 4 goals against us. Chimera we can contain like in the last game we played them, while Clemmensen not so much.

Isolated games are one thing -- a series is another. Also, Theodore is the goaltender they'll be using in the playoffs. |

I think you have to be a lot more worried about the big picture rather than two players. |

There's no point of worrying about the big picture if you can't get past the first round. Look at the last three playoff exits, Pronger was a big reason we lost to Philly, Jussi Jokinen the year before, and Sean Avery the year before that. So yeah I am worried about those players.
However, it could go our way like when Langenbrunner caught fire against Boston in '03.
Hopefully the latter. |

I meant the big picture of the team you are facing. This Devils team is different than prior teams by a country mile, there's no players who have won anything, sparing Elias, Sykora, and Brodeur. Those guys each have something to prove also. The desperation is evident in this team, and the feeling that they have to redeem such a pitiful season is also here.
It should be a good playoffs.

Pronger is an elite player that played on a team with more depth than either Washington or Florida. Jussi Jokinen was not the reason we lost. Cam Ward played out of his mind, Staal was a force that playoffs, there whole team beat us. Sean Avery, uhhhh no. We couldn't beat henrik all series. In all these series we were backing into the playoffs as well, playing terrible hockey in march.
And no, I'm not worried about a 3rd liner or a backup goalie in the playoffs. |

Yup. Elias, Parise, Zajac, Salvador, Clarkson, and marty are the only ones that were on the team for those collapses (we beat ourselves as much as the other teams beat us in those series). Our whole team dynamic is different, I really don't think its accurate comparing this years team to teams of the past. |

Read the players off that roster. A good majority of them translate into veteran have-wons who don't have the drive the young players have.
The overhaul from that season to this in terms of roster is incredible. |
