as much as some die hard fans wouldn't mind having a GM like yzerman who doesn't speak french, the problem is that the media, and a TON of the "casual" french speaking fans, would make a HUGE deal out of it....especially after the stink they made about an interim coach. It would be the ULTIMATE form of hypocrisy to ignore the fact that yzerman doesn't speak the language, especially after they so thoroughly threw cunneyworth under the bus.

The habs are going after a french speaking person for the GM position. According to Lebrun and Gagnon, they have already contacted Pat Brisson (agent), Julien Brisebois (AGM Tampa), Marc Bergevin (AGM chicago) and asked permission to talk to Clause Loiselle (AGM Leafs).

Serge Savard who is the advisor to Molson for the hiring already said the next GM wills speak French.

I doubt they go with him, Mcguire is being pushed by TSN and Melnik in MTL, I doubt he is high on savards list

Correction.....guaranteed they won't be English who can speak french. The next GM will be a francophone who can speak English.

I doubt they go with him, Mcguire is being pushed by TSN and Melnik in MTL, I doubt he is high on savards list

He is good friends with Molson however. None the less McGuire will not be hired. My bet is one of Brisebois or Bergevin at the helm now that Damphousse is withdrawn his name.

Correction - Molson as stated they would prefer to have someone who speaks French, but did not fully commit to that, saying he wanted the best person.

That being said, I am sure old Serge Savard wants to interview the least possible amount of people, as not to interrupt his naps, so he will only stick to those who speak French.
