Hey Bill great blog as usual. You mention Bryz stopping some testers from Bryz in the blog. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

Great work, as always, Bill.

I think you meant Bryzgalov stopped a few testers from Ilya Kovalchuk - not Ilya Bryzgalov (although, that would be an impressive feat). Those pesky Ilya's!

Coburn was all over the ice last night, and really anchored a consistent penalty kill. Just a fabulous team effort.

Oh I don't want to pile on, but no wonder Grossman had a tough time with the refs. He forgot one of his "n"s.

Once again Bill, your analysis was spot on! Coburn had been a monster since he was paired with Grossmann, and the 3rd period (outside of some questionable officiating) was a thing of neauty to see.
2 questions; First, now that Timonen is back do you put Coburn back on his pairing or leave him with Grossmann? Secondly, what do you think is the biggest factor in Bryz's turnaround? He was playing pretty well for a while and then ever since that shootout win against Calgary he has been on fire!

And by neauty i mean beauty that's what i get for posting on here through my phone

I think the way bryz is playing, he could very well shoot the puck, and then beat it to the net to stop his own shot.

None the less, excellent write up, Bill.

You know a goalie is confident and on his game when he's taking test shots on himself

I'd keep Coburn and Grossmann if I can. Long haul I don't like Carle and Kimmo as a pairing at all, but in the short term I think it can work. It looks like Kubina will be back shortly. At that point he can be paired with Kimmo. Once everyone is back I'd prefer Mez with Kimmo and Kubina with Carle. I think this way you get the best balance of skating ability and snarl on each pairing.

I love the Carle/Timonen pairing. They are a almost perfect fit. The only negative is that Timonen has to play on the unfamiliar right side.

I'll say this. When the Flyers play as they did last night, with the total team game. They can play with anyone in the League. And I think they can come out of the East if it continues.

Nice to see the praise for Coburn. He had a Helluva game last night. Playing with Grossmann has really seemed to help him get his game back to where it needs to be.

The officials sucked both ways last night. The Hell with making radical gameplay changes, the NHL should look at current refs and their inability to call a game well. Get rid of the Jacksons, Augers and Peels.

I worry that they can both get pushed around a bit.

They had Pronger at the time, but they showed they could play this well at the very beginning of the season.

There was one call where the ref at the near to the play south end was looking at the complaining player shaking his head no as the far north ref raised his arm. Teamwork, boys.
