The team is obviously so much better with Markov in the line-up. It will be interesting to see how they work out the pairs next year.

Our left-handed D are Markov, Gorges, Emelin, Kaberle and Campoli. Clearly, we are keeping Markov, Gorges and Emelin. Campoli will be done with us come April. I fear we will be stuck with Kaberle, though we should try to move him. I know some are arguing to play Emelin with Markov on his off side, but stats generally demonstrate this diminishes production. Thaty said, it would not shock me to see this pairing. This is a good group of D on our left side.

Our right-handed D at the moment are Subban, Weber and Diaz. Clearly, this is our weak side. Subban has to be a long-term lock up that hopefully the new GM will take care of quickly. Weber and Diaz are essentially the same player, and my inclination is probably to keep Diaz. We still need to sign a D for the right side in the summer.

So that leaves us with the following pairs.

Gorges-Subban
Markov-UFA/trade
Emelin-Diaz
Kaberle-Weber

I would love to see us pick up a big stay at home D for that right side with Markov. Not necessarily a superstar, but someone who will make the other team think twice about hitting Price, or for that matter, Markov. Cory Sarich comes to mind.

It really is a bittersweet situation. This season is lost and there is nothing left to evaluate for next year. The one silver thread in this lost season was the prospect of finally drafting a true blue chipper. A player that can expedite a true improvement in this hockey team. I'm not suggesting the team tanks but I will be truly insulted if this team pulls it together when it means absolutely nothing. It will be a slap in the face for the fans. Especially since there are players on the roster who will be exiting after the season. So this is simply a showcase for future employment. Can you tell hockey is not fun for me right now?

I still want to see the Habs win but there is a fine line to seeing a true player come play with us ( not that pacio or subban or price havent been ) But another chip in the system in the form of top3 pick would be nice. ( hope we don't pick a bust )

Let's just say gomez comes back next season and by the way he has been playing lately, he gets back into form.

That means for next year we get a high draft pick,

Subban, price, pacio, desharnais, and palushaj all get better,

Gionta comes back, gomez comes back and markov comes back..

We pick up a solid D man and another 4th line STRONG guy to play with white, staubitz and moen.

Instantly with those things said we are 10x better ( without an injury plagues seaons let's hope )

Who do we get for ELLER. A winger with SIZE and elite skill..

Someone from anaheim or nash?

I could see our first this year and next year for nash? I don't really want that but it adds to our system NOW and with a pipeline full of 2nd liners, we won't need to worry about our first line for a while.

I wouldnt be wierd about drafting a blue chipper this draft is deep. Problem is we nned at star forward and they are within the top 5. We are currently in line for a top 3 but here lies the real problem. with just one more win we go from 28 to 21st which means the difference between drafting a grigorenko or forsberg or galcheyuk and up drafting another d-men

I wouldn't worry, the Habs should finish with a top 10 pick and will more than likely be drafting an excellent player.

Not sure if Barret Jackman is a right sided D or willing to leave St Louis but I think he could be a nice fit.
