If its my team Ryan Suter and Brooks Orpik are my shutdown pair, I don't think there are two better American Defenseman in the league. EJ has a lot of growing to do, I see him get beat a few times a game, maybe in two years it will be different.

Is Myers Canadian or American? Anyways Giordano has a better shot at the Olympics than Alzner.

Nobody can match Letang, Doughty, Keith and Weber. I don't think Seabrook will be on the team.

So in short no, they won't have better D, but they will have the best Captain in the world, RYAN CALLAHAN!!!

Also, don't forget Marc Stall if healthy, Myers, Green etc. Lot's of other options for Canada.

I'd say the US and Sweden fight it out for 2nd best D, but Canada is still well ahead.

Until the US finds another Dman instead of Jack Johnson, who is God awful defensively, no. There is time though.

And Nuge? He might not be ready. Stamkos wasnt on the 2010 Olympics because they thought he was too young.

Spezza has made leaps and bounds over the last two seasons. Even his biggest critics now see him with a legit shot of being in the conversation of making this team. The only people who don't either haven't been watching him or refuse to accept the reality. If he keeps getting better and better, more responsible, there is no reason to not think he won't be considered.

I think the top 4 D men are locked:

Letang, Weber, Doughty, Keith.

2 spots for 2 of Seabrook, Pietranglo, Staal, and Myers.

Yzerman always says he is looking for 200 foot players, which is why I think Phaneuf and Bieksa are out of the running. Especially Phaneuf, he will never be good defensively and they have enough D for the PP already.

As far as the Forwards, time will tell with Iggy and Nuge, both oppossite ends of the spectrum. That will be interesting to watch but I could see Iggy being there as the captain. You need some sort of veteran leadership and without the likes of Pronger and Nieds, Iggy is the only real option, providing he still has the legs.

Due to the depth at center, Thorton and Getzlaf are gonna be in tough.
