That is why I find it amazing that so many people are down on JVR. When he tried to play through injuries and not whine or use them as an excuse, he got criticized because he wasn't as effective. When he and the team followed concussion protocols and he sat out of games until he was fully symtom-free, some fans claimed he was malingering to avoid getting traded (which is a preposterous accusation and, quite frankly, a bit offensive).

I thought this was going to be his breakout season. Damn shame about his bad luck with injuries.

And it shouldn't surprise you that people took what started as a joke and ran with it...you've been around this team and its fans long enough.

It is very unfortuate. I hope he can be back by the playoffs. JVR seemed to have some jump in his step last night before he got hurt. It seemed rather impressive to me that he had the wherewithal to make a nice play to clear the puck from his knees before hobbling off.

I'm not talking about the people here who were being tongue in cheek about it -- I'm talking about ones that actually believed it.

Tan, I think the first guy who mentioned it (in the Panoch thread) was serious (and stupid) and was roundly criticized for his doltishness, but the rest of the mentioners were just suffering the lack of the sarcasm emoticon.

That was great. He made a better play while hurt than some of the guys at 100%.

I loved him sticking with the play in spite of his pain and inability to get back on his skates. That's a hockey player!

Lavi telling his players today that they really lost last night and need to get their heads out of their collective behinds and be prepared to beat the caps.
The flyers/caps will also play the third period first in order to negate the slow first period starts.

JvR has had some bad luck this year with the injuries. Still very young with plenty of potential. Its a shame the injury occured but hopefully he will be ready to go come playoff time. Take the offseason to heal the injuries (get surgery if needed)and come back strong. This team could use his help.

Saw half of the First and listened to the final 5min...saw I had to rely on highlights.
good to see some production and a breakfast sammich for all those who attended the game.

As with JVR, it's just one of those years. If he uses his time off nicely this should get him set for the playoffs and mentally prepares for years to come. he's still young...

It has come to pass that my normal Caps v Flyers game companion is not able to make the Sunday night tilt at Verizon Center. Therefore, I have a single ticket available if there are any HB folks looking to make a trip down to DC for the game.

We have fairly decent seats - Section 222 row J (really the last row of Section 116). I'd be willing to let the seat go for the season ticket holder cost of $60. That's almost 1/2 off the face value.

I figured that I'd give some Flyers fans the opportunity to take a seat from a Caps fan for the game!

PM me if interested.

Go Flyers!

I'm with you when it comes to JVR. I just don't get it. The trade JVR movement has been going on since his second yr in college. i think it would be a major mistake

You'll never know. And I don't get drinking coffee on an unhappy tummy. Does not compute. At least you aren't Ian Poulter.

If I don't drink coffee on a unhappy tummy, I'll have a blinding headache to go along with the unhappy tummy.

Wasn't just here, though. I know most people here were tongue-in-cheek about it.

But there were any number of idiots -- the type that angrily yell "hit somebody!" when the team has allowed 2 harmless shots in the last 10 minutes and "shoot!"when there's a maze of players and no angle for a shot -- who were popping up on other message boards, Twitter and (of course) WIP to accuse JVR of malingering the concussion.

Usually I just let that sort of stuff slide, but that made me angry. JVR didn't deserve that. Criticize his inconsistency, sure. Say the injuries are not an excuse for his so-so production, OK. But accuse him of malingering? That's way, way over the line.
