Palmieri is a fringe NHL player. Veilleux was recalled for the first time last week and played one or two games (5 minutes or so each game). Foster was a healthy scratch a few times and they gave a 2nd rounder. The 5th asset, a 3rd next year, is only given if they make the conference finals. If they do, it will be well worth it.

I don't even think I would consider SV an "asset". He couldn't crack our lineup but one time this season, and Lou did right in sending him back to his hometown of St. Paul.

The conditional pick only kicks in if we make the ECF which I think all of us will be happy should that happen.

The 2nd rounder is the Crapitals, and is only as good as what the Wild draft.

Foster was a journeymen PP specialist, but a liability 5 v 5. I wish him luck and appreciate the time he spent here.

Palmieri could be in a sophomore slump. Or he could be a product of Jacques Lemaire's coaching and playing with Zajac/Kovy all last season. Who knows. The potential is there, but he wasn't exactly lighting up the scoreboard in Albany so with the emergence of Bernier he became expendable.

I'm happy with the deal

I doubt either Palimieri or Vellieux wouldve been recalled if not for the trade being in the works.

Question (Since this has not been brought up enough, and I am aware of Lamoriello's public stance....)

Given the rumors, Would you trade:

Parise for Brown, Bernier and a 1st round pick.

No. I think the Devils would have some locker room issues if they traded their best player and Captain at the deadline. That, and if they acquired Bernier they would be screwing over Hedberg, who took a pay cut to stay in New Jersey. He has a NMC, too.

The Foster experiment was a failure. A lot of hype about his shot, but he can't ever hit the net. The rest of the players we traded away were completely worthless.

I like this trade a lot.

I don't disagree.

I just think Dustin Brown is a vastly underpaid player (9.3 total over the next 3) and the idea of the Kings making him available is preposterous.

So, if he is indeed available, I think it needs to be considered. If you could choose a prime player to be part of a package, you might not find someone better all things considered. He makes no money and he is very similar to Parise in many ways.

the pp definitively improved with foster but its nothing i dont think zidlicky can completely replace and be better at 5 on 5. to me the trade is palmieri and a 2nd and a conditional 3rd for zidlicky.

palmieri has some potential and could become a good 3rd liner but i will miss the 2nd the most

Foster improved the PP the most with his ability to cleanly and accurately rotate the puck over to Kovalchuk, not with his shot.

The PP struggled earlier in the year because Fayne was having trouble getting the job done in that regard. Toop many times he would jam Kovalchuks skates or make him stretch out and that split second recovery time ruins the whole flow of the play.

The don't need the 95 MPH shot to remain effective.

So, I agree Zidlicky will be more than adequate. And may be able to help Larsson a little bit, who knows.

Foster's shot also makes teams have to respect him, whereas Fayne is not a threat at all from the point, nor is Larsson at the moment.

I am still waiting for them to put Larsson back on the PP now that his offensive game has progressed and he is better than Fayne offensively.

Agreed, it's also much easier to take the slot pass away from Kovalchuk when you're not moved out of position challenging the opposite side point. In other words, if the defender doesnt have to step out to Fayne or Larsson he will be in a much better position to cover Elias across ice when the puck is rotated over to Kovalchuk.

Although, it's not a 95 MPH, I believe Zidlicky's shot should be more than adequate enough to prevent this from happening.

Zidlicky seems to have more offensive touch, he has put up 50 points in a season before, we'll see. Hopefully this invigorates his game, we might start turning into Detroit with these washed up pieces (Poni, Bernier) reviving their careers in NJ.

Line-up for tomorrow?

Kovalchuk-Henrique-Parise
Sykora-Elias-Clarkson
Poni-Zubrus-Bernier
Carter-Josefson-Janssen/Boulton

Volchenkov, Larsson, Salvador, Zidlicky, Fayne, Greene.

This is still missing Tallinder and Zajac. Our line-up looks good when those two come back.

I actually like that line up. Defense looks solid if Tallinder comes back. Maybe switch Volchenkov and Greene if PD wants a shut down pair.

Also has 14 assists, look at the point production of Minny defensemen.

Also, Minny's PP, where he thrives, has been BAD too....

Some of our defenseman are worse.

Can't judge a d-man on goals, judge on the passing and assists, he will quicken the breakout and allow the forwards to move up the ice easier.
