I will eat a dirty old used hockey glove if Rick Nash ever plays for this team.

Thank you.

I hope the Flyers get their act together after that showing in Edmonton.

A certain poster named after one of the old city drinking crew is now rummaging through his garage looking for said glove

I wouldn't be suprised to see Grossman and Kubina re-signed. If Carle can get close to $5 million on the open market, Kubina could be a short-term fix at a lower cap hit.

I expect Grossman to be back. Kubina might be a little tricky to get back unless he takes a bit of a pay cut. I still think they want to target Suter or whoever the best UFA D man available this summer is and I think you might have to let Kubina walk to do so...

The question is, do you pay $7mm for Suter or $5mm or so for Carle? IMO, Suter's not worth $2mm more than Carle.

We all know the one issue with Suter is the $$$ he is going to get.

Det, Philly, NY just to name a few will all be bidding for his services.

I am thinking a team is going to grossly overpay for him.

Agreed, but my concern is Carle worth $1 million less then the contract Kimmo signed? I'm not so sure, that is why I wouldn't mind signing Kubina for probably less per year with a lot less years then Carle will command.

Honestly, the only guy I would sign to big money is Weber.

Let Kubina and Carle leave, sign Suter and Grossman and Gustafsson is the 6th d-man.

Suter
Timonen
Coburn
Meszaros
Grossman
Gustafsson

The way this team is playing right now, it's hard to envision them doing anything in the playoffs, it's going on the equivalent of a quarter of a season with out consecutive wins now.
I wouldn't be opposed to trading Carle in the next few days. Recouping some picks. The worst case scenarios with Carle are; re-signing him at 5+ million, or losing him and getting nothing in return. Trading him makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm ok going to 7 for Suter. Not a penny more but I'm ok going to 7. If they miss out on Suter this year it means they will have to grossly overpay for a top D man even more so once Kimmo is gone the next year. And who knows if Weber will even be available next year. I think you have to make a serious offer to Suter(or the next best available) this year.

He's really not. They're basically identical statistic wise too. Carle turns the puck over 13 more times this year, but Suter has been playing alongside Weber all season. Also Carle blocks a lot more shots than Suter which could be due to the turnovers. However they are both relatively identical, Suter might be a little more refined but Carle has always shown when he is paired with the right guy he's a topnotch defenseman.

Timonen's deal vs Carle's deal is apples and oranges. Different market. When Timonen's deal was signed the cap was $50mm. Carle's deal would be a cap over $60mm, unless the new CBA features a lowered cap due to a lower revenue share for the players.

I like Ryan Suter, but I wouldn't go to $7mm for him. I agree he's better than Carle, but he's not vastly better.

If Suter signs a $7mm deal, then you're paying a premium for a modest upgrade on a guy you're unwilling to pay $5mm per year.

Honestly, that is what I expect in the next CBA. Lower end teams are already struggling to make the cap floor, I can't believe Bettman will allow the split to remain the same, certainly Fehr will make the negotiation contentous.
