Get off the crack..AK47 is not worth a first unless the Habs send a 2nd+ the other way.

Agreed. The Habs will get similar value to what the Leafs got for Antropov/Ponikarovski. A 2nd round pick or decent prospect. Maybe a mix of both.

I was at the game last night against the Devils....
AK 46 MIGHT get you a second rounder , but
More likely a 3rd/4th....
Nobody and I mean nobody hit anyone all night....
Around the league he is considered as marginal

Considering the market, he could land a late first in my opinion.

Sorry, but there is no top 6 forward on the market.

And Ak is a better option than Hemsky, considering the price and the health of the player.

Gill got a 2nd + and he is 37. Your opinion does not matter. It's all about the market.

I'm not sure he's better. He is less injury prone. when AK47 isn't scoring he is killing them with terrible play. Hemsky is just invisible when off.

Gill is interesting though. He has played so many huge playoff games that his value is higher then that of his talent unlike AK47

Look at what his brother is doing with the predadors and grabowski in Toronto.
Nobody wanted them in montreal. And AK has more talent than both. Maybe it's the system?

Was AK46 a better player when SK74 was on the team?

plus defenseman always seem to bring back more, the Devils traded a 4th rder and a low prospect for Poni this year. The best thing Montreal can do is wait until Hemsky, Carter and Nash get traded then go to the teams that missed out on them and try to get a bidding war between those teams. AK47 might be able to bring back more if you wait and try to do a deadline "last second deal"

I would say so, but this is an off year for a lot of players in mtl.

I think you guys should make a play for him. As much as I think Gauthier should ask for a first, he will probably end up with a 2nd. Not playing him does not help to get value.

Might need a coaching change, just like his brother.

If Akots does not fetch a 1st (25 or so +) or low to mid second, then there is no point in trading him.

Try to sign him then.

If they don't sign him before the 27, I think he will walk this summer. Otherwise, I would agree with you. But you have to get something for him and I don't think he is in the plans of the team.

Unfortunately, AK will not likely get a 1st. Not because his numbers don't justify it, but because the Habs have marketed him so poorly. All season he has played fairly well with Eller on the third line. But now, when we should be shopping him, he is being played on the 4th with Gomez? Really? While Darche plays with Pleks? It's true AK has not lived up to expectations, but he has been a relatively consistent 20 goal scorer who has size and uses it fairly consistently. I know some of you will disagree, and that's fine. I get that facts and numbers don't mean much on this site. AK should be a 2nd or 3rd liner and play between 15 and 20 minutes a game. Instead, he is with Gomez.

As for who we should be selling...
* Since we are not using AK properly, we should take our 2nd and a struggling prospect for him, and move on. Bourque replaces him.
* We should focus considerable efforts on moving Kaberle. We need a top-4 d for that price, and he's not it.
* Dump Campoli, Darche, Weber and Nokelainen for whatever we can get back.
* If Moen is well, trade him for a 2nd, but I suspect he is shut down for the season. If so, I would re-sign him for the 4th line next year rather than let him walk for nothing.
* If we can move Gionta, now or in the off-season, we do it. We need to build a first line, and can't afford to with the salary we are paying him. He is past his first line days, and too expensive and small to be anywhere else.
* Gomez needs to go, one way or another.
* If we have to give up prospects to improve a deal, Enqvist and Palushaj are good to go.
* If someone wants Budaj, I wouldn't cry too much about the loss.

We keep:
* Pleks as our top line C, and then find 2 top line wingers to play with him for a change. With Cammy's and Gomez's salary gone, we can afford a superstar for that top line.
* Cole, Patches and DD because they are an ideal, effective and economical second line.
* Eller to play the 3rd line, accompanied by Bourque to replace AK and one of the prospects like Leblanc or Geoffrion.
* White to play on the 4th, then we need to sign a 4th line C-man (Gaustad) in the summer, and perhaps use someone like Blunden or Moen if we keep him.
* PK + Gorges, Emelin + Diaz, hope for the best with Markov, and sign another top 4 RH stay at home D in the off-season.

it's not the system. AK is like Forrest Gump. he's got the physical, athletic tools, but he's just really stupid.

this is shockingly realistic/accurate

Darche - 4th
Campoli - 5th
Weber - Stays
Kaberle - stays or we take back another horrible contract
Nok - 7th
Moen - 2nd
AK - 2nd and a B prospect

Gionta isn't going anywhere

Cole - DD - PAcioretty
?? - Plek - Gionta
Bourque - Eller - LeBust
White - Gaustad - Moen
Blunden

Markov - Emelin
Gorges - PK
Kaberle - Diaz -->
Weber
