Another sad way to end a career. Best of luck to Chris Pronger and his family.

I imagine it would be difficult enough to step away from the game after playing so long. However, it must be even touger having to deal with the concussion symptoms at the same time. Best of luck to Chris and his family as he continues to regain his health and a sense of normalcy.

So so sad. It is one of those times when you really step back and face the real world and ignore the hockey side of life.

I just hope Chris and his family are able to return to a normal quality of life.

As for hockey, he should walk away. The sad thing is that the CBA means that the Flyers are stuck with his contract against the cap. This season has shown that his unique combination of physical defensive play and high end offensive skill are missed and their absence means that the other blueliners get worn down or exposed. The recent addition of Grossman and Kubina will help on the ice. But no one is Chris Pronger.

What a shock. An blog supposed to be about Chris Pronger and his struggles, Tim finds a way to take a jab at Bryzgalov.

I cant stand the media here(other than Bill, Dave Isaac and a couple others). Always trying to stir up some extra drama.

That being said, best wishes to Chris and his family. Even if he never plays again, I hope he gets back to full health for himself and his family.

At this point, you hope for a normal life outside of hockey and consider any progress towards that a good thing. Hockey should be the last thing he's worried about

Maybe because he is the most important player in regards to your success in the postseason & he sucks. So much money for such a mediocre goalie. You guys don't stand a chance against NYR, Boston in the playoffs cause you have poopty D & MrSoftie in net. The truth hurts.

Golden Boy Meltzer bashes the Flyers' goaltending in his most recent blog and no one says boo. I don't see how you can say anything about the Flyers this year without mentioning the dissapointing goaltending. To say the Flyers miss Pronger, but they would still have goaltending issues even if he weren't injured is not inflamatory....it's just true. I know it's popular to bash Tim, but maybe you should take your own advice and just stick to the subject; Pronger's well being.

Yeah it doesn't look good. I think that one of either the NYR or the Bruins win the cup this year. Bryz was one of the best goalies on the market in the offseason. I don't agree with the NMC and the 9 year deal but I would have tried to sign him. Not sure what else Philly can do except wait until next season when that monster-sized prospect goalie can come over stateside.

Going to go in some murky waters here. Been a longtime hockey fan, and watching pronger win his triple gold international crown, through to his final games as a flyer. Great hockey player. Unfortunately, hes a victim of his own game. Pronger is a guy thats played incredibly dirty his entire career. It's the way of the game a lot of people would say. Well, life has a funny way of giving karma back to us. No man is an island. We all swim in the same pools. But the guy played hockey recklessly and selfishly for a very prolonged period of time. It is unlikely the man ever comes back to play hockey. Though, if he does, and miracles have happened, I'd bet it would be at a fraction of his former self. No doubt hes one of the best defenders in the modern NHL, but suffering such a major concussion, coupled with his wife's pain visible each hour of each day for him, there is no way he can come back at the same level.

Hopefully he finds a way to learn his lesson through this, so that he can get himself back to a more functioning human being for his children and wife. As that is where he needs to invest himself now.

It's time to retire Chris. For your family and healths sake. Coming back will lead to disaster. Good Luck Pronger and family.

Hey, much like Sid he has had success of every kind in his career, so if it is over at least he wont have to be pissed that he lost his chance at the big prizes. With all he has already won it would be foolish to even try to come back next year at his age much like it would be for sid if he cant stay healthy this time. Sad to see one of the meanest, dirty, tough guy D men go out like this. Enjoy retirement Prongs, keep the elbow pads sharp and get your head right.

edit- re-read and retract my statement.

I just think what's happening to him is awful. Regardless of how he was on the ice or how much anyone disliked him on/off the ice, nobody deserves to be going through what he is now. I don't think coming back to hockey is even a thought right now.

"Primeau will be the first to tell you that just to get by a day without some symptom is a victory. And to do that on consecutive days is another victory."

There is so much truth to this statement. I suffered a concussion back in December, and having never missed work due to illness in the six years since graduating college, I cannot tell you how bad it can get. I waited a month to go symptom free for just a few days. Spent 45 minutes in the gym doing some light lifting and cardio work, and by 2am the onslaught of migraines was debilitating. I was in the ER by 8am and all the doctors could do was give me some ibuprofen and tell me to rest up. Two months later I haven't had consecutive days without issues. To be an athlete and have to deal with this, I couldn't imagine it. Getting your heart rate up at all brings on dizzy spells, confusion..I've lost my eyesight for periods of time, been unable to physically move at other times..Sorry to put myself into the story, just saying, I understand how bad it can be, and prior to my own experience, I just had no clue how bad this could be. Prayers and best wishes to Prongs and all the players out there going through this, and kudos to those guys that have come back and been impact players, like my man @DP_57 Let's hope this concussion plague is addressed via better equipment and prevention before the entire league is fighting these symptoms!

I agree entirely with this. If Pronger's ever to leave the NHL, I hope the door hits him on the way out. That said, there are real villains in the world, real evil people who deserve terrible things and Pronger isn't one of them. I hope he has the opportunity to leave on his own terms, sooner rather than later, without being forced out by a life-altering injury and, what it really is, brain damage.

Sez the guy who roots for the team who's only hope for a postseason bid is likely to be winning the softest division in the league. Has Versteeg learned to keep that mouthpiece in his mouth yet?

I hope Pronger can get back to just feeling normal enough to live in peace. Sounds like a lot of these guys with concussions battle some serious depression issues. Gotta be a tough situation to be going through. Get well soon Prongs.

First and all that really matters. Sorry to see Pronger will never play again. I hope him and his family the best. Don't come back to play the game, we thank you as fans for all you have done.

Now, our D is actually very very deep right now with the new additions and yes our goal tending may bring us down. That said, don't throw stones if you live in glass houses. The Flyers have as much chance at the cup this year as your Panthers, IMHO. They also have a much brighter future with some amazing youth in the system.

Yeah I agree Tim took a jab a Bryz but really don't you think he deserves it? 10 friggin million dollars this year and he can't stop a beachball.
Wishing Chris and his family all the best and hopefully he can get back to normal soon. Retirement is sad but the only answer here. Chris needs to just be healthy and live a normal life.
