I think the Boychuk signing is OK. His game fits very well with this team and in that sense he is worth more to Boston than he would be to other teams. He is a legitimate 2nd pairing defenseman, and his cap hit isn't so excessive that he can't be moved in a year or two if need be. Also, consider that Dougie Hamilton will likely fill Corvo's spot next, and the savings there will likely balance our Boychuk's cap hit over the next couple seasons.
I think this definitely signals the end of Corvo's tenure with the Bruins when this year ends, which is a good thing. Going forward the Bruins have TONS of stability on the blue line. That can't be a bad thing, especially for a team that is coming off of three straight seasons of being amongst the best teams at keeping the puck out of its own net. The pairings for the foresseable future should look something like:
Chara-Boychuk
Seids-Ference
McQauid-Hamilton
Rock solid if you ask me, with the potential to be spectacular if Chara continues his Norris caliber play and Hamilton develops into a #1.
Should be a Fun Tilt tonight with the Rags in Town.
Boychuk 3.5 cap hit Whoa Nelly, i didnt see this coming. I would venture to say thats a bit steep for #4 thru #6 D-man but Chiarelli gets my benefit of doubt here
