I would think Pirri and Morin could be had. Perhaps Saad too. I would think Bowman would want to hold onto Kruger.

That would make a lot of folks happy considering he is a Pittsburgh local.

That Weber/Suter situation is going to be a fascinating scenario to watch play out.

while that trade definitely was great for the flyers, i agree with the latter part about shero and contracts. id have to think thats a good thing though, as what may seem good at the time could potentially cripple a franchise down the line.

To add to your comment last blog:

What are your thoughts on these disputed mega-long-term contacts that players like Kovalchuck have signed? Would you consider giving one to Crosby before his deal expires in two years?

If you sign a guy for 12 or 15 years and you think you have him forever, well let’s be honest, if he doesn’t like the way the team’s run or he doesn’t like the ownership and he’s not happy, in today’s game players will come to you and say, “Look, this isn’t working out like I thought,” and then you’re stuck. But if you sign a guy to a five-year contract like Crosby, or anybody else, and you make every attempt to win and you make a commitment with a brand new building like we have, then you’ll have a much better chance to retain that player. So I’m hopeful that Sidney will want to stay here his entire career and retire a Penguin like Mario did.

I'm sure having the local kid around would make folks happy. I'm pretty sure either Pirri or Morin can be had. I'm not so sure on Saad. If it were for the right d-man, I wouldn't see why he wouldn't be available.

The Weber/Suter situation is really just the Suter situation right now. Weber is still a RFA, so it's something the Preds wouldn't have to worry about until next year. Suter on the otherhand will be an interesting story line come summer.

I don't think it is as simple as that, as it pertains to Nashville.

Does Morin still take shifts off and look disinterested? That was a glaring weakness last time I saw him.

I find it interesting that Chicago is looking for a Dman ... Hjalmarsson, Keith, Leddy, Seabrook and then your typical third D pairing is what it is. Top four are solid and then you have two vets in Montador and O'Donnell ....

I’m not sure where this Cal O’Reilly experiment is headed

Luckily it should be coming to an end soon.

I think Nashville will end up keeping both those D men.

I highly doubt Suter is moved, but the rumoured asking price as of last week was a roster player, an A-level prospect, a 1st and a 2nd.

That's a hard pill to swallow for a guy who can walk on July 1st, but when you consider what Kaberle got last year, this seems to be right around market value.

Even though the Pens and Hawks might have complimenting assets, considering that both these teams are considered "contenders," why would they want to help each other, especially at this time of year?

Just sayin'...

Opposite conferences, the odds of both of them meeting in the SCF is slim.

If Chicago doesn't address their goaltending situation I would put those odds closer to 0.

Very true, but I don't doubt that these types of considerations cross the minds of GM's who manage contending teams around the league.

Watch how few trades between "contending teams" are made before the deadline...

They could have Lovejoy Niskanen or Engelland plus pick for Saad if I was the GM. Probably would have been cheaper to trade up in the 2nd round last year and get him. Or instead of pick they can have Burtuzzo or straight. May be an over payment depending which side you fall on but I like the thought of having a really good prospect from the Pittsburgh area.

Depends on the kind of trade. You won't see mega stars moved. But if you are talking depth players that can fill a need why wouldn't a GM do that with the other conference.
