It's just a rumor at this point and it might be complicated by the fact that the Hawks apparently had another Brian Lee on their roster a few years back. Digging on it.

I'm doubting mostly because the Brian Lee from Ottawa is currently on the IR. It's unusual to trade for a guy who's still injured.

Maybe, my source heard it in Montreal this AM. Was specifically about the Sens' Lee and the Hawks. But could have been just speculation.

Confusion over different Lees definitely tripped me up in digging on it. Have updated blog.

Interesting. I know it's still unclear but if it's the Sens Brian Lee I don't know quite what to think. I know he has been very unpopular in Ottawa, but I don't know if it reflects more his play or where he was drafted and more, who was drafted after him. Akin to the hate Beach gets for not being Tyler Myers.

He fits the profile of a likely acquisition of the Hawks: size, salary, playing style, contract status. Hawks also acquired anopther 5-6 defenseman from Ottawa at this time last year.

But I do know the other Brian Lee confusion was part of why I was tipped and why I went out with it, and for that I apologize.

I'll take that type of reporting - with conditions as you cited - any day of the week, as opposed to something being spouted as 'fact'.

Let me also add, this is why the blog was headlined: "RUMOR".

It was/is a rumor and I was clear that there was some confusion surrounding it from the beginning. At this point, my instincts tell me this was a perfect storm of misleading info. on top of a vague rumor that IS out there.

Want to get out there with it as it happens, at the same time, it's a little embarrassing to find out it's mostly bad info. Beat reporters have to wait on this type of stuff until it's confirmed by a team source; I respect that. As a blogger, I can go out with a rumor. Your batting average when it's confirmed by a team source is 1000. A little tougher when you're reporting rumors "as they unfold."
