good call! I was about to ask the same thing

Great game last night. I was really encouraged by Bryz's play.

Also, I was quite impressed with Jags selfless act to help out G.

That's weird. I put it on the black jersey icon. Will try again. Click refresh on your browser and see if it works this time.

Read is so valuable, he can play on any of the 4 lines and make a difference. I thought he looked great at center last night. Read was on the one NHL show on Sirius (just a taped interview) this morning talking about how well Bryz played

Loved the play of the Schenn line, physical force all night and Rinaldo hammered TooToo with a great check. If this score wasn't 2-1 at the time I think the TooToo train may have come off the rails.

Even though Giroux got 2 pts last night and was great at the dot(been good for a bit now) I still think he's a bit off and forcing things.

The Flyers need to stop farting around. They're up 2-0 going into the 3rd and start the period really flat and give up a goal. I wish they'd come out like gangbusters and make it a 3 goal lead. This happens way too often IMO.

That was a very solid home win against a very good team.

Hi Bill,

Great blog as always!

Seeing how well Bryz played last night against Nashville, a Western Conference team, got me thinking that maybe his lack of familiarity with the shooters and style of play in the East is having some bearing on his play. It's a small sample size on the WC, but check out his splits.

vs. Eastern Conf. 23 22 55:47 11 8 3 66 3.09 587 521 .888 1
vs. Western Conf. 12 12 60:28 8 2 2 30 2.48 355 325 .915 0

Do you think there is any credence to this theory?

well, that's an interesting take on the situation.

The stats show you may be on to something.

I think Simmonds must've have been on here the other day reading the whole "sniper" conversation. That's why he went out and peppered Lindback with 10 SOG's.

Perhaps to some degree. But I chalk it up more to the Flyers playing better overall in their games against Western Conference teams this season, including the games in Philly against Chicago and Nashville. However, Bryz's problems in the first half of this season kind of started to surface in that early season home game against St. Louis.

Interestingly, some of his worst games came against teams he played just once - including Montreal, NYI, Rangers.

He did have some bad games against WC teams, but obviously confidence overall is a factor too so that could explain that.

The Flyers definitely have played better against the West this year (glad to see that for a change). But he gave up 5 goals against the Caps in the game before the St. Louis game, and then another 5 to Mtl in the game after.

Obviously, even if asked he wouldn't make an excuse about it, but hopefully he'll continue to improve as he gets more familiarity with the conference and its players.

Bryzgalov looking good between the pipes recently.

The Flyers played a much better game tonight against the Preds.

re Marshall, the flyers also effectively cleared out a contract for nxt yr as well since ford is a ufa. according to Tim, he does have a " great slapshot"...maybe he took lessons from Matt Ellison

I really don't mind this Sestito character. Haven't seen enough of him yet to form a solid opinion but not bad so far.

He skates pretty well for a big guy and seems pretty tough.

Only worry I have is he hits high, always has his hands/elbows/forearms up and that worries me for penalties/head shots etc.
