Yeah, it's a real shame that he had that freak injury because he was developing beautifully, though his AHL numbers were a bit underwhelming due to how bad the Sharks AHL team was those years.

IMO, Nitty was signed to be the 2-year bridge until Stalock would be ready. Of course, then Niemi happened, and Nitty's injuries happened... Greiss went to Europe for a year and then came back when needed.

All Sharks fans want is for Stalock to get back on track, though now he has more competition for AHL starts with Sateri coming to North America and Sexsmith having a surprising rookie AHL season. Add that to JP Anderson in the OHL and the Sharks have a pretty nice pipeline to find a goalie or two.

Of course, neither Niemi or Greiss are especially old, so it'll be interesting to see if DW uses the goalie depth to deal from.

Yeah, this is a blog, not a newspaper. If I watch the game, I'll typically skip past the recap and go straight to Cam's Contenders/Pretenders list.

Ultimately, I'd like to hear more of his opinions or at least have him bring up more interesting questions for conversation.

What are the Sharks biggest issues...? What are their biggest strengths??? How does this team stack up against the rest of the playoff field??? Do you think the Sharks can beat the Cannucks or the Blackhawks (or even the Wild) in a best of 8 series??? How would you grade the trades of 2011 in your opinion (A, B, C or D; or did Wilson just swap offensive depth for defensive depth)??? What should DW do this trade deadline - try to find some offensive depth??? Help for the PK (which has improved...) or just try to find a body to "shake things up"...and if so, how much should he be willing to part with from our already rather barren prospect pool? Will Havlat be able to come back in time to get his timing back before the playoffs, or will he hurt the team??? Are the Sharks as good as their record would indicate or are they slipping into mediocrity??? Will the Sharks go on another killer run to end the season (as they have so many times in the past) just to sputter out in the playoffs???

There are SO many questions surrounding the Sharks right now.

I think the sharks BIGGEST issue right now, is our third line!
We need some speed with Handzus ... Im no longer a huge fan of Mitchell, and McCarthy isn't working for me. McGinn is a true surprise, he's one of the only guys that hits game in and game out. I like winchester as a forth line guy. Perfect fit! I think the sharks need to pick up someone of the likes of Bolland or Laggenbrunner. Playoff, gritty, garbage goal guys!

I'm with you there. I like McGinn on the 3rd line, the rest of the 3rd line I'm really rather ho-hum about. Handzus and Mitchell have their moments (and you could argue that Handzus is making McGinn a better player), but in general, Handzus can be a liability out there; and Mitchell is so easy to knock off the puck he seldom can really contribute to a decent cycle down low to try to wear other teams out or really maintain puck possession at times. I like his speed, but I just think the Sharks need a little more in that 3rd line RW slot.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Mitchell traded as part of a package to improve the third line. Sounds like there are rumors we're trying to acquire Ruutu from the Canes - unfortunately, he's a left wing I believe, whereas we really need a RW (IMHO), though not sure if he's capable of playing RW or not.

Winchester has really surprised me. I thought he would be a total waste, but he's been a really solid 4th line player.

Niemi out tonight after taking a hard shot to the balls.

Sexsmith will back up Greiss.
