Peckham and a 2nd round pick

I think Sutton is a slow dman in the mold of a younger O'Donnell. I don't know much about Peckham but think this deal might work. What kind of game does Peckham play? What is his contract status?

You do realize Blum to Edmonton rumours were present as far as 2 seasons back, right?

But way to pat yourself on the back.

I am not a huge fan of Peckham, so maybe I'm not the right person to attempt to promote him.

This being said, here's the good: Peckham is big and has a mean streak in him. The Oilers felt at one time Peckham could become Matt Greene 2.0, and I am a huge fan of Greene's. Every team needs a warrior on the blueline like that.

I wouldn't say Peckham's a terrible skater, but I wouldn't say he's good. While he plays tough, he's still very young and he doesn't know when to pick his spots. Sometimes he takes stupid penalties at very bad times. I've heard some interesting discussions about his off-ice behaviors and personality, and believe he needs to grow up a bit if he wants to move his hockey career forward.

There is potential there for Peckham to become an average NHL 5/6 guy. Perhaps in Chicago playing on a team with someone as brilliant as Duncan Keith, Peckham can mature on and off the ice, and turn into the solid, shutdown guy the Oilers hoped he could be.

The Blum rumors last season were Ladislav Smid for Blum. No one was talking about Hemsky for Blum and a 1st at any point during this season.

Thanks for coming out.

IMO I wouldn't throw in a 2nd with Peckham for Frolik. Unless the Oilers standings change significantly that 2nd rounder is essentially a late 1st (unless the Oil have someone else's 2nd). Make it a 3rd, throw in a 7th if it's really a big deal between the 2nd and 3rd and done deal.

Clouts,

This is very pie in the sky but here goes. With a 2nd concussion in under a year now Nathan Horton could be out. This means Boston may need another top 6 guy and both Hamill and Caron are not good/ready enough for that role yet. Sliding Peverly up there does nothing for me either. What would Edmonton be interested in for a possible Hemsky rental?

That makes sense. Would Peckham and a 3rd be enough for Frolik? Where exactly does he fit in the Hawks future plans? Is he a salary dump like we tried to do with Brule?

One guy that I wanted it our of Boston and maybe not for Hemsky, but Mcquaid.

I'm assuming Dougie Hamilton is untouchable for Hemsky?

If we are taking Frolik we should be the one to get the pick

Peckham is RFA after this year.

I would take anything Cloutier says about Peckham with a grain of salt, he seems to have a big hate on for the guy.

Up until recently, Cloutier is correct that Peckham had a tendancy to take bad penalties. However, if you look at thast 15 -20 games he's taken all of like 4 or 5 penalties not all of them bad either. His defensive play is much better than last year and he's actually got a decent plus/minus (-1) for an lousy edmonton team.

Peckham is a big body, will use it. However I wouldn't expect much offense from him thats not his game.

Considering he's a healthy scratch for Bickell and he's not even being played to audition for other teams I don't see him fitting in the future plans for the Hawks and he would be a salary dump.

I'm also biased and want Peckham gone. Slowest turning dman in the league and he's becoming Moreau 2.0 with his after the whistle penalties. But the early 2nd rounder is more important for the Oil's rebuild than a 2.3M reclamation project.

Also unless the Oil are willing to give him 2nd line mins, they shouldn't try acquiring him. We'll get the same results as Chicago if we give him bottom 6 mins.

I would assume Dougie is untouchable as some around here have crowned him Chara's successor. McQuaid is possible but only if they turned and got Stuart back from Winnipeg as this would give way for Kampfer.

Frolik might be gripping the stick to tight right now but he does play a complete game. He back checks and plays good in all three zones. He is a solid player who does not need to score to help his team. The Hawks would miss him since they do not have many forwards that like to play D.

Hemsky to Boston makes total sense to me. Who wouldn't want to go to the Bruins with their cup chances this season? They have all sorts of cap room too.

I know it's never going to happen in a million years, but I wish there was some way the Oilers could give Hemsky+ for Dougie Hamilton. That's my dreaming moment for the day. Back to reality...

The difficulty in predicting an Bruins/Oilers deal with Hemsky is in the return. The Bruins have several decent young prospects, but I'm not sure which ones, outside of Hamilton, would be a future solution for the Oilers. Up front, the Oilers need more size, and most of the better Bruins forward prospects are smaller in size. On D, maybe Steven Kampfer would be of interest? I'll go with that. Kampfer and the Bruins 1st round pick in 2012 gets you Hemsky.

We have that already in Belanger, MPS, Petrell and others.

Our offensive players aren't the issue. Might be nice to get a RW to slot into the top 6 when/if Hemsky gets dealt, but for the most part we shouldn't be traded d for forwards.
