Did PK seriously get benched in a game while his team was up 5-0 or 6-0? What did he do? Flash a smile and enjoy himself?

using "Nuff said" should be enough for a lifetime ban

But yes in the past 10 games they have gained Zero points on the leafs... 8 points might as well be 100 points at this point in the season. Montreal needs to stop beating detroit 7-2 and focus on a top 3 pick and dumping as much dead weight as they can

Yes, they are winning since Gomez returned... and I concede he has played better hockey. Last night he actually looked good. The Bourque-Pleks-Gomez line showed some chemistry.

But you are forgetting a wee detail. Cammalleri is also missing for all but 1 of those games. It was apparent to everyone that there was a dressing room problem, and it was alleviated after Larry Carriere was put behind the bench to report back to PG. Add to that the way the new coaches are taking on PK, and how his teammates are supporting the disciplinary moves, and this dressing room may actually come together.

The good news for me is that I believe Montreal can truly be sellers at the deadline and still maintain the team that has been winning for them in recent games.

* The top line of Cole-DD-Patches is intact and should go nowhere.

* The second line of Bourque-Pleks-Gomez is working out. We are stuck with Gomez this year, so if we got the right return for Pleks, I would entertain it, and let Gomez centre that line for the rest of the year.

* The AK-Eller combo is a keeper. We can trade Moen and use Blunden or Leblanc in that role for the rest of the year. Enqvist is a complete bust. He looks lost out there.

* With White coming back, let someone else have Nokelainen if they want. Essentially, trade anyone but White on that 4th line for improvements.

* Clean out the D. Gill, Campoli, Weber and Kaberle are all fair game unless we really start to look good leading up to trade deadline.

Montreal will need at a minimum 45 points in the remaining 33 games. essentially they need to play at a 112 point pace for a season .697%. Or roughly 23-10 or 21-8-3

Pack it in folks, aim for top 3 pick you are only 5 point out of that

He took a foolish penalty. But I think this has been building for a while and the coaching staff was looking for an opportunity to sit him.

Leading 4-0 to start the 2nd was as good a time as any!

I doubt any of us disagrees. But a complete rebuild is never going to happen in Montreal. They will never take the fall for the top pick. And lets not pretend that has been the panacea for every team with the top pick. As good as Stamkos is, the team sucks. Edmonton is a long way off cup contention. The list goes on. It's a bit of a myth that bottoming out for the top pick is the answer.

They need to dump the small and aging, and focus on developing the youth core with the help of a couple of veterans.

I do agree that drafting high should be the priority in theory - but we have PG at the helm - can we really trust him to make the right pick? Montreal hasnt had the best of success drafting in the first round - that is the quandry we face -

I agree it wont fly in Montreal... but a lot can be said for young superstars on your team, TB had a good run last year. It gives hope if nothing else... Gomez gives... well not hope

Toronto was in the same situation this time last year and I had to hear about it every day. It's our turn to dream.

Toronto's situation is not that much different this year. Finishing 9th is not much of an improvement. Perhaps they should also take a dive for the draft.

One draft pick will not make any team a contender. (Nash, for example)

Several good draft picks and a couple great picks, will.

Bottom line. Good drafting.

Depth. At the NHL level and in the minors. Player development.

Aside from the 2008 draft, Montreal has improved. They're not there yet, but going in the right direction. I don't give a poop if they draft 3rd or 10th overall, just make it a good pick. Deadline: acquire another late first / early second and a pick in the 3-5 round area and I'm happy.

Looks like Gauthier wants some vet contracts to go with those, to improve the team this year and next. I'm okay with the retool if it means bringing in guys like Bourque over Cammalleri. I've been sick of seeing this team get pushed around and out-muscled. I want to watch a real Canadian hockey team wear that jersey, ffs.

Gionta and a pick for Pomminville.

Explain to me how Montreal went from being the smartest hockey fans in the league, to the dumbest. Surely the fans want to see a comptetive team and understand the NHL post 1964.

Molson Ex Zone mentality?
