I didn't think so earlier in the year, but I have a feeling that Suter isn't going to be a Pred next year. Just a feeling I have. I don't think it's even about money, or contract length, I just think he is going to head to a bigger market where he's more visable. Just my thought, I hope for you guys i'm wrong and if I am right, i hope he's dealt to the team he wants to go to for a proper return. I'm not a fan of these "I want to resign here" promo's and then wait, and wait and then magically, at 12:05 on July 1st he's suddenly signed to a new deal with someone else. I won't say it's fishy, but it clearly stinks.

could be that the run this team is on could be convincing Suter that this team is closer to contending for a cup than it looked about six weeks ago

How could Suter or Webs not have confidence that this team can compete with anyone?

You're right, it's not about money or contract length, it's about this team's ability to win games and compete. He will resign with us, because he knows we can beat any team in the NHL. He's already said many times he love Nashville and his family wants to stay in Nashville. He will be a Pred for many, many years.

I am so proud of this team. I have never had so much fun watching the Preds play in many years. Beating Chicago twice in the span of days is incredible. Our forwards are really starting to gel together. If we continue this momentum throughout the rest of the season, I think we are going to be one of the most, if not THE most, dangerous teams in the playoffs.

Also, anyone know if Weber will be in the skills competition?

I would say there is a greater than a 100% chance he will be in the Hardest Shot competition. Him vs. Chara last year was probably the best event there was.

Until I hear otherwise I'm going to keep alive the pipe dream of us keeping both Weber and Suter though I doubt it will happen.

I was just looking through the schedule, and March is going to be a complete b!tch for the Preds: nine road games, nine games in 15 days which includes three back-to-backs (one of those being Detroit away followed by Chicago at home).

I'm sure they can handle the physical toil, but this is going to be a major test mentally for the youngest team in the NHL.

Supposedly, Poile sent out an email to all GMs saying that he's taking Suter off the trade market and is "upping his efforts" in signing Suter long term.

This is precisely why David Poile comes across like a buffoon sometimes. His freaking efforts to sign Ryan Suter should have been "Upped" a very long time ago!!

Exactly! I'll add my right here, as well! When has re-signing Suter not been an urgent matter, dammit!!!! This is why he and Webs should've had extensions LAST year!!!!

Unless Suter didn't want to talk contract until a certain date... which happens. Does anyone know the reason why Poile waited or was it his own agenda that determined it? Hard to flame him without knowing for certain.

First, none of us know what the email said....even if there was an email. Second, even if it did say "upped" (which I doubt), that could mean anything.
"Upping his effort" could also be interpreted as the "Preds are going for it" that has been stated in the last day. DP could be upping his effort by trying to find a higher end player than he had planned for....such as a Parise/Ryan instead of a Ruutu type player.

Point is, unless you know exactly what's going on, you can't say too much at this point.

What's the feeling for Blum and a 1st for Hemsky? Rumor is out there that it was offered and Poile turned it down.

I really, REALLY hope these Ek rumors aren't even remotely true.

The Hot Rumor today is Hemsky(e3) is very high on the Preds list. Another new name is that of Brad Boyes(e2) (along withTuomo Ruutu and Ray Whitney...who personally I feel are both the way I would go.)

Boyes - Defensive liability. Trotz would have him riding the pine in no time.
Whitney - Already past the magic age where we start purging guys from the roster, not adding them.
Hemsky - Someone help me out here. What is the big deal about this guy? He rarely puts in an entire season and doesn't have numbers that are even remotely eye popping.
Rutuu - Ok, everyone seems to like this guy, but he's only scored 20 or more goals in a season twice in his career. Do we really need another guy like this?

The way the team is playing right now, if Poile is going to make a move it should be for an Impact player, not a complimentary player. I don't see how we justify pushing another guy out of the lineup the way we did after claiming Yip, so that the new guy can do what the other guy has already been doing.

Thoughts?

Hemsky is not worth more than a 3rd round draft pick IMO. Hemsky is a free agent at the end of the year and is constantly injured. Not exactly what we need when the playoffs get going and everyone amps up their game.

Seems too high a price to me. If Hemsky wasn't just a rental (and could stay healthy) then that would be a different story.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled with those options. I'd take Hemsky if we got him cheap, but you keep hearing his name everywhere. Someone will overpay to get him.

Completely agree. Roll players are not going to convince anyone that this team is committed to winning. Bring in that guy that can help us win the division.

1. Parise
2. Ryan
3. Rene Bourque
4. Kostitsyn
5. Whitney

I would start at the top and work my way down the list. The worst thing the GM's can say is no. Whoever wins the Central will win the cup this year! The time is now to make a move!
