The path will lead to a 2nd round exit this year...but provide the foundation for many very strong years to come. (This all is predicated on the fact that Mr. Snider doesn't force Holmer into trading away the entire forward corps for Weber at the trade deadline)

Bryz has been around the league for far too long and been solid for too long with Ana / Phx for this downturn to be the norm. He's in a longer than expected confidence rut leading to some sub-par play from time to time. He's a professional and all will become OK again once the sun stops flaring up and causing a rift in his cosmic balance.

You wouldnt take Cole who is NHL ready rock (6'1 225lbs)--2 way D-man high first rounder-- and a 1st round pick for Schenn who is much more of a prospect IMO.

No, I wouldn't. I don't have interest in a Dman with as little NHL experience as he has right now and and the Blues 1st isn't likely to be low enough to interest me. If the Flyers are trading Schenn, i would expect it's at least for someone who is a known commodity.

I have very few concerns about goaltending. The media seems to have fed the concerns about goaltending-not a surprise.

Bryzgalov has been a good goalie in the past over a number of years, and has bounced back from bad seasons before. The nonsense from the media-not just the print media, but outlets like WIP and CSN-probably isn't helping, but Bryz will soon realize that most of the media is like locusts anyhow.

I never expected the Flyers to have a rebuilding year. The talent on hand was evident to anybody that followed the league. Not that I expected them to be a top tier contender, but I definitely expected them to compete for at least one round of home ice in the playoffs. Of course there were surprises to be had, but counter balance that with the injuries and poor play and one has to admit they have done a solid job.

As for the path, stay on the path with the kids. The Flyers have set themselves up to be a contender for a number of years with this group of kids. Why trade a bunch of it off for a Shea Weber or Ryan Suter? The Flyers should be prudent and avoid overpaying in youth for a quick fix to be slightly better this season.

saying weber or suter is a quick fix is an asinine and retarded statement especially when they are basically young at 27. If the Flyers had to trade some youth so be it the forward core is very young and the defense needs improvement.

It's far from asinine or retarded.

You see, they will have to trade assets to land Weber or Suter. That means they will be trading guys on EL deals and draft picks, which means that they will have a lot of guys with big cap hits and less cap room.

Then they will have to lose guys, much like Chicago did after winning the Stanley Cup, because they won't have the cap room to keep them.

Do you think that Weber or Suter is going to come cheaply in a trade? What happens if Pronger can return next year and his $4.9mm is back on the salary cap? How much does it cost to re-sign Weber or Suter.

Your knee jerk comments are as short sighted as trading a big package for Suter would be, when he's a UFA in the summer

"I don't think the Flyers can win the first or second seed in the Eastern Conference simply because the Ranger and Bruins have better goaltending."

Injuries happen... a Ranger/Bruin #1 goalie pulls a groin or something, and the Flyers are right there. Although, Biron and Rask are playing very well in the back up role - but could they be the #1? I am surprised that Thomas hasn't had injury issues at his age. His last injury was in 2007. And, Bryz may get Hot (he has the talent).

"The impact of Matt Read, Sean Couturier, Marc-Andre Bourdon, etc., can't be downplayed."

Besides the players... I think you have to applaud Homer and staff for this. The Flyers have to be in the top five for finding the diamonds in the ruff (a low round or undrafted pick that lands a job in the NHL). Read (undrafted), Bourdon (3rd rounder), HarryZ (undrafted), Rinaldo (6th rounder), but not so much for Couturier - a first rounder should be a no-brainer. Top on the list of teams that are good at this - the Wings.
