Cam Gore: Sharks effort falls short against surging Senators - CamGore
So a friend emailed some information from tonight's love fest with Doug Wilson and the Fans.
Wilson said that the team will only make a "Minor" depth move at or near the deadline. He said he is happy with the play of the teams younger players and cited Wingels, Demers (who was then scratched by the coach), Braun and DesJardin. Wilson stated that all the big moves were made over the summer.
Some one asked Wilson about team speed, and he dodged the question saying the Sharks are as fast as the Red Wings and Chicago, when they want too be.
He mentioned Detroit 6 times, and joked about Thornton and Marleau being young players on the Red Wings.
He said he was not happy with the power play or penalty kill but that it is not the players faults, or the coaches fault, it is just faith.
Wilson said the team is tired from playing so many games, and he would like the number of games the team plays reduced to 70.
He said Petrecki is not ready and won't be for a few years, and he said that Niittymaki is the goaltender on the outs.
When asked about Joe Thornton, Wilson mentioned how great he has played since his turnover streak earlier in the year. He said that the coaching staff, nor himself had any idea as to how to solve the problem, but that he checked with some Detroit scout to get advise. |

Sharks came out of the gate playing the first 5 minutes with an intensity that they just can never maintain over the course of a full 60 minutes. WHY? If they could keep that level of compete in tact they would be an elite team, but they just seem to get complacent, go off the boil and it's an all to predictable end result.
All the tools...no toolbox very frustrating. |

Agreed. The first 10 minutes or so, the Sharks looked unreal. I thought the Sens were in for a blow out loss. But for whatever reason, they seemed to take their foot off the gas and let Ottawa control the play. I'm not complaining. |
|
|
|
That was unacceptable. The Sharks were up against the team that was playing 3rd game in 4 nights and had played on the other side of the continent only 2 days before. Talk about NOT making any excuses. Niemi was shaky, our special teams are subpar.
An important Canadian trip is next and the Sharks better get their sh@t together. |

i think its' more than them "taking their foot off the pedal". after going down 1, the sens seemed to really up their forecheck and physical play, and the sharks just didn't have an answer.
The sens remind me of a "boston jr". not saying they're as good as the bruins, but i find they have a lot of the same strengths. they both have high end skill, both have solid goal tending, both run at least 3 lines (i guess 4 in boston's case) that can put the puck in the net, both play a very physical and in your face game. I think that you can look at the bruins and say that, in 3-4 years, if the sens continue to progress as they are, they will be in a similar spot. IMO |

Not only that, but then they also lost two forwards to injury during the game. Zack Smith left with 10 minutes left in the second and Daugavins left with 5 minutes left in the first. |

The problem with these sharks is their glaring record against playoff bound teams. The better teams in this league have had the sharks number. The sharks have the best win percentage of any team in the league based on number of games played at least it was that way last week, not so sure now. But their record against the good teams going to the playoffs is below .500!! They beat up on the weaker teams not going to the playoffs, but fail miserably against the top tier teams. If it wasn't for 2 early season wins against the Red Wings when they were a team struggling early on to find wins and no production out of dats and zetts this shark team would be way under .500 against those teams.
Doug Wilson talks about only making a minor tweak at or near the deadline, but the way I see it, this team is not built to make a long run into the post season. I would imagine a first or second round exit at best. |

Unfortunately it is not really funny. And my friend(s) say this is a factual account of what was said. If something is inaccurate please tell.

McLaren is on waivers I hope this guy doesn't get claimed. He's underrated and one of the few players in our system that can actually fight |

What a massive blunder it would be if he gets picked up by another squad.
I hate to trash talk a team I love but man, the only word that I can think of to describe the Sharks of late is impotent. Nobody has that killer instinct to get the puck in the net anymore. And I've had it with Joe Thornton. Is there ever any doubt that he is not going to shoot when he has the puck???
Ok thats my rant for the day |

Proof? Here's Sagarin's ratings:
vs top-10
BOS 3W-4L
SJ 7W-8L
VAN 7W-9L
PHI 5W-6L
PIT 3W-8L
CHI 6W-8L
the only top-10 teams with winning records against other top-10 teams are:
DET 9W-7L
STL 10W-7L
NYR 8W-2L (amazing!)
NSH 7W-6L
In fact, the only other team in the entire league with a winning record against top-10 teams is LA (9W-8L).
When you expand to the current top-16 teams, the Sharks are 13-10, which is far better than teams like Pittsburgh (8-15), Chicago (8-10), Nashville (9-11), Philly (11-10), Vancouver (12-11), and St Louis (13-11). The only top-10 teams with a better record against top-16 teams are Detroit (15-9), Boston (13-5), and NYR (12-9).
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/nhl1112.htm
Note: Sagarin's ratings count a loss as a loss, be it an L, OTL, or SOL.. so that's why many more teams have losing records than you'd expect. Given that, he has the Sharks record at 26-18, which combined with a very weak strength of schedule (given how down the pacific is this year compared to the Central) has the Sharks at 6th in the league right now. |

Key words " HAVE THEIR NUMBER" more so to the teams in the western conference which is all that matters for the sharks if they want to play for the shiny thing. If it is a 7 game series, they don't come out on top against vancouver, chicago, detroit, or st. louis. maybe not even the kings. This is what I'm talking about. Yes, those other teams are right around .500 too, but those teams are built for this years playoffs! Boston, Pittsburgh when healthy, chicago, vancouver and phi when healthy would all have a legit shot at going deep into the playoffs. Not the sharks, despite having a similar record. They aren't scoring much against even the weaker teams in the league. Their pp is progressively getting weaker, and their pk is still near the bottom of the league, and goals for has progressively decreased over the past three years. Not a formula for success. And it's not like you can just flip a switch.

Clowe on IR......... - USA_Parise9
i wish it were that simple, but he hasn't performed all season. he's not what you would call a pp specialist. he was very good last year in secondary assists, mostly 5v5. |

the way you sound about clowe, you act as if he's been out for 6 weeks! he's only missed 2 games. His absence isn't the reason for their struggles. when he has been in, he's been a pretty big disappointment this year...down in every category.
oh, and he'll probably be back next week anyway. |

cute..makes perfect sense now; you're a kid that doesn't really have much to add other than "he's a good player." here's a news flash for ya kid, everyone suiting up in the nhl on a nightly basis is a good player. - troon
LOL
Kid is the only thing you can come back with? Ok buddy
Clowe has 9PP (4G 5A) good for 2nd on the team for PP points FYI
Such a miserable fanbase seriously. |
