AK46-No Thank You. If Poile wants to keep Suter and Weber he needs to be thinking much bigger like Parise. Trade for Parise and O'Brien.

I would love to have SOB back but I think Shane wore out his welcome. DP will not unload the farm for Parise. Go after Parise in the summer. This team needs a nasty vet d man with size and a bigger body winger that can play 1st and 2nd line minutes. A Wilson-Smith-Tootoo 3rd line in the playoffs will do some major damage. AK46-Legwand-Hornqvist line would be tough to slow down.

Poile is going to do his usually sit there and count his draft picks while everyone leaves. Then claim there werent any deals out there that didnt involve giving up way too many Predator assets. And tell us all to wait until next year when Rads will be coming back to save the franchise.....................................................................................................

I disagree with this statement. I think most people in the organization liked SOB. It was just strictly a #'s game with him. We had too many d-men and not enough spots. Coming into training camp we had Ellis, Josi, Eckholm, and Laakso all competing for spots....and that was assuming Blum was keeping his spot at the time. All of those were cheaper options than SOB....and a few were probably ready to play at the NHL level.

Now, that being said, if Colorado slips and isn't likely to make the playoffs, I'd love for DP to throw a lower draft pick their way and get SOB back for the stretch run.

SOB shocked me the most during the summer unloading. After he stopped taking bad penalties, I thought he was one of our best dmen during the playoffs, especially on the PK.

DP made a good point the other night during the Rangers game

"at this point in the season everyone still feels they can make the playoffs and everyone is looking to add scoring but there are only 4 or 5 teams that are sellers at this point"

Heavy rumors involving Andrei Kostiysyn to us.

Also, a good read from nhl.com http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=612537

"I believe we got the best player available at the deadline. By signing Ryan Suter, this gives stability and strength to the Nashville Predators for years. His leadership will help our younger players." David Poile

Obie walking for $1.1 was Poiles worst mistake in the last 6 years....

Playing for the Av's for 1.1 million on a 1 year deal sure sounds like SOB wore out his welcome. The way he played for the preds last year should have netted SOB a better deal. I just pray Shane doesn't end up on the Sharks or Red Wings.

You can say that...however, all the published indications from the media, the coaches and the players were positive (both on and off ice) on 55.

Played with Wilson at BU. Sounds like a replacement for Geoffrion. Brandon must be dating Suter's sister. I'm sure Ryan will sign on sat. with the whole family being here for his birthday.

Here is what Nashville needs in a condensed versions:

1) A Power Forward LW that can play at least the 2nd line
2) A True Big Body #3 D-Man who will knock some heads around (but is also smart and doesn't take stupid penalities)
3) An upgrade for Smithson on the 3rd/4th line.

Let's not forget that once preseason starts, he will say this is a competitive team that will be better in the 2nd half of the season.

I agree we had a roster spot question, I do not agree we had a $ question. Nashville currently has the lowest payroll in the league, well below last years. We could have afforded SOB. And in my management world, a bird in hand, is worth more then 2 in the bush. In SOB, we had a proven commodity. Ellis, Josi, Eckholm, and Laakso were not proven. Poile gambled. Poile lost.

Of course we could have afforded him, but we didn't need to. Drafting all these d-men has caught up to us. It was time for them to play with the big boys. No rookie is ever proven, but at some point it's time to play them. Poile gambled, but he has not lost. The season is only halfway over, and we're still in a good position.

I know several of you have man crushes on SOB, but good grief, he is not what is holding us back from a Stanley Cup.

Still going to disagree. Yes, we needed to see what some of our young D could do. What we didn't need to do was to sign Jack Hillen. We should have gone into the season with Weber, Suter, Bouillon, Klein, and SOB. And then let Blum, Ekhom, Josi, Laakso, and Ellis fight it out for the 6th spot. Considering Bouillon had questions about his health, there is a chance 2 of those 5 would have made the opening night roster. By the time Bouillon came back, we would have known Ekholm and Laakso were not ready for the NHL. Then we would have had only 3 guys (Ellis, Josi, and Blum) fighting for 1 remaining position. We would have kept Blum and sent Josi and Ellis down to Milwaukee. Then as the season progressed, we would have seen that Blum had lost his game, Weber and Suter would get banged up, and eventually Josi and Ellis would have made their way to Nashville. In the end, we would have had Weber, Suter, Josi, Ellis, Klien, and SOB as our top 6. Bouillon would have challenged Klein and SOB for ice time, but usually been the #7 D. Blum would have been in Milwaukee, like he currently is.

Looks like Poile has added yet another 4th line journeyman forward. Brandon Yip, welcome to Nashville.
