I think 7 a year for Price is too much, as far as I know he hasn't been named a Vezina finalist or winner in his career once compared to Rinne who was a finalist last year, I would give him 6-6.5 a year it's more reasonable.

I don't like it, but Price has the Habs by the balls.
For my part, 5 years 35M is more than acceptable.
Interesting...

lets get this done, Price is arguably top 5ish goalie and we have no-one coming up to contend. I think the franchise needs its top five goalie, and they decided who it should be when Halak was traded.

Thank God he still wants to stay....

Not sure he really has them by the balls considering that he's an RFA an not a UFA. He certainly has leverage but not enough to bend them over a barrel.

I guess the thinking here is that the Habs will be buying his UFA years and making him a Hab for life. For that, he wants to be compensated. But still, $7 mill per??

Yes please. Sign him for anything he wants! All we need to do is improve our offence and we can become a top tier team. We need to bury Gomez, trade Gionta, Gill and Andrei Markov (All for draft picks, prospects) and go all or nothing for Weber/Suter. Maybe take a chance on Semin. But first of all, demote Cunneyworth back to assistant coach, fire Gauthier, hire Patrick Roy to be the GM and then grab Guy Carbonneau back. He was a great coach. Either that, or wait until Tampa fires Guy Boucher this summer.

That, to me, is the biggest part of it all. IF this is true, and I emphasize the IF, it shows that Price DOES want to stay.

Considering all that has happened, it really could go either way with his intentions. But I think now that his buddy, Gorges, is locked in, he might want to be part of the long term plans too...

I'd give him 7M for 5 years, not for 10. If he wants more years, he needs to let some money on the table. But that's logic. Habs have no power, they'll give him whatever he wants...

The interesting thing about that statement is that IF the Habs do sign Price to this huge contract, it most certainly means Gomez is gone in the offseason.

Whether by trade or demotion, there is no way they can keep him and sign Price for $7 mill per.

That's the good news. And hopefully they'll have to trade Gionta too!

I like Gionta. He has heart and he's one of 3 players who are actually still trying. But I don't like him for 5M for the next 3 years.

I could see a team take Gomez to reach the cap floor.
7.3M on the cap, but only 5.5M and 4.5M in salary for the next 2 years...

This team is too small, even after trading Cammy for Bourque.
I give you a choice, would you prefer Gionta or Gallagher? Can't have both.

No one will take Gomez. Cap floor problems or not, they can likely trade / sign players to hit cap that will offer actual production and help the team.

Gomez will be bought out, is my expectation.

We only have 6 players under 6 feet. Plekanec, Desharnais, Gionta, Diaz, Gomez and Weber. Only two of them (Desharnais and Gionta) are under 5'11". And at this point, Desharnais may be untouchable.

It will be hard to put a full team on the ice if they give him that much. Nashville is a good example of that. They always make the playoffs but they can't beat the top teams or spend money to improve their offense.

Nashville overpaid for Rinne and now mtl has to follow up, I guess.

They should try to sign Subban long term this summer to avoid something like that, but his agent will never agree. He knows Subban had an off year.

I hate paying so much for potential. Price is good but has yet to prove he's going to be great. I also hate super long term contracts. Don't get me wrong he's the guy, I just would hate to see them handcuffed like that.

Agreed...and, to be honest, I can't see how Gomez will start the year in Montreal next season. Not possible...
